Copying To Axim
It took my encode of The Crow (191meg) 30 minutes to copy to my Axim. I've read around and found this is normal. About how much faster would a USB media reader copy a file the same size? I'm trying to figure out if it's worthwhile to buy one. I was looking at the Iwill CR611 and the Inwin CR e500 on Newegg.

Card readers are a lot faster to transfer files, I don't know why. I can copy a whole album across via the reader in about the same time to copy a single song via the cradle.
Card readers are dirt cheap, particularly if you live in the US.

Yeah the card readers are really cheap. Usually around $30 but sometimes as low as $15 or $10, if you live in the US.

whoops, it looks like Amazon took down the rebate--can't find it on their site right now. it's supposed to be good until August 31st 2003.
oh well, that's the trouble with these online rebates. they tend to disappear if the marketing folks find what they are looking for...

it's cuz even though your Axim's cradle is a USB interface - the connector that connects the Axim to the cradle (or cable) is a proprietery serial interface, so it's much slower than USB - and that's where the bottleneck lies.
in other words, you're not actually using USB speeds yes card readers are much faster, and your 90MB file would take 60 seconds to copy over (in theory, not in practice). so expect about 3 minutes or less i would say.

Newegg has got the Biostar 6in1 USB 1.1card reader at $9.50 with free shipping + a free ball point pen... (I got this reader and it works flawlessly with Win XP with no drivers required..).. can't beat the price. Link here
just copied a 228 Mb movie in 4 min 13 secs. to a 512 Mb CF card which works out to about 54 Mb/min
