I am completely lost on this, I bought Nero Ultra Edition (enhanced) version 7 and downloaded all of the updates. One of the added extras was Nero Mobile.
Has this caught on in the PocketPC community? It sure doesn't seem like it has to me.
The screens look terribly clean on the device, but there doesn't seem to be any link to the Nero Home program on the work station PC part or anything.
The pocket pc screens are not intuitive at all, but you get the feeling that they were trying to make the interface easy. Maybe it is a "German" thing, sort of like Sony with all of their buttons that confuse the user, so no one uses the extra features. Sorry, I didn't mean to start a cross-cultural dialog here.
I've got the manual (which wasn't included on the purchased CD rom, amazing and another story altogether).
It would be great if I saw more about this somewhere, but I've searched and don't see any topic thread titles with "Nero Mobile" in them. Their web site is practically useless, the printed booklet that came with the CD just describes what it does.
Anyone have any practical step by step instructions on loading media? I just made a folder and copied stuff over to the SD card (MP3s), but it was slow. Somehow they should target a link to Nero Recode for movies, but I don't see the connection. They sure made it easier to load video to my ipod though in this addition. So, why don't think connect to the pocketpc device right there in Recode?
Step by step guide for both music and video would be nice, any web sites with tutorials or blogs anywhere? Really, this is quite an exploit and I can't believe Nero isn't supporting this better. They really use some unique terms in the interface like "activate" and shuffle you around different menus (all clean with icons, but the text and logic are a bit more than intuitive).
Apparently this plays internet radio stations, video, and music. I've emailed them, but seemed to get blown off. Sad really. I want to learn.
Well, if you'd done a REAL search for Nero Mobile (I typed in "Nero Mobile" into the search box, and found 3 titles with 'Nero Mobile' in the name, and about a half-dozen related threads), you'd have found out that it's been mentioned as being unstable and not all that good, plus being a real CPU hog.
As far as using media players like this go, the simple 'create a folder on the card, drag things into it' instructions are all you really need. Plus, as Gigi notes, there are better players out there (CorePlayer's better with MP4 files, IMO, and TCPMP is free and doesn't crash as often). I've used Nero to encode files before for AVC format, and they play fairly well with CorePlayer, but I find the Nero Mobile application to be a piece of junk.
As far as software bloat goes, I haven't found it bloated... but then again, I don't run InCD and I don't run the NEro SmartStart at startup, nor do I have Nero Scout installed. :D
Nero Mobile seems to be an unfinished piece of software. And I think it was a bad decicion to release it when so many functions only worked partially or not at all. Now they are even nagging about upgrading to Nero Mobile Professional. Hah! Not me! But there is hope. Last time I tried to use it with Nero Mediahome I could actually watch live TV on my Axim. So maybe it is OK for that or for watching Nero Digital encoded video. For audio there are better alternatives, except maybe for Nero encoded AAC files.
Nero makes a great CD/DVD burner. That's it- the rest of their software is junk. Even the Cd burner application for linux was beta-quality. When I was using windows I'd burn with Nero 5.5, nothing else. But that was the only peice of Nero software that I could recommend.
I tried CorePlayer, it is a bit more straight forward interface. I don't know if everyone is installing this on the storage card or in memory, but seems to be playing fine from the SD. Will experiment with some movie files.
In Nero's defense, the did write back a support email.
Horror. I installed the trial of Nero Mobile, before reading the forums.
Now it seems the trial busted the possibility to play mp3's with windows mobile media player. Does anyone have a suggestion how to reinstall the needed codec's and fix the link between mp3 files and windows media player mobile? Nero AG's support does not react on e-mails.
I ran nero mobile for a month or two and I found that it could be summed up in two main points:
Flashy interface.
Crappy Functionality.
It looks nice and I like the larger buttons because I can hit them with my fingers, but, unless I am more incompetant than previously thought, the functionality strikes me as less than intuitive. I say go with TCPMP or Core Player if you want hard core media capabilities. But to be fair to nero, I really like the rotating carosell intro screen menu.

I am using it now a bit and it doesn't seem that bad. Not good eiher, mind, but not bad. Im not THAT technical about this stuff but it does seem like a cpu hog. For media I am currently using Pocket Player with great effect.
I don't like playlists, so TCPMP is out for audio. I use nero for video because my TCPMP doesn't play videos right for some reason.(the audio plays slow, like everyone has a deeper voice)
If you can get it i'd recommendnPocket player for audio. Nero was a let down in the library depsrtment, and looking at a 3.5" screen the menu's don't need to be that pretty.
This messege brought to you by x51v, Resco fullscreen keyboard, and a toilet.
I've THOROUGHLY tested and compared it to the alternates. (See my latest, multimedia-related threads in the Applications forum - http://www.aximsite.com/boards/applications/ ). The alternatives are better in almst everything: UPnP, CPU usage, video playback etc.
But there is hope. Last time I tried to use it with Nero Mediahome I could actually watch live TV on my Axim. So maybe it is OK for that or for watching Nero Digital encoded video. For audio there are better alternatives, except maybe for Nero encoded AAC files.
Nero Mediahome is just a UPnP server, which means you can use other UPnP-capable players with it. Now that CorePlayer receives (at last!) UPnP support in 1.2, there will be absolutely no point in using Nero Mobile Pro for local UPnP video (!) playback. (For UPnP audio playback, Conduits Pocket Player is better.)
i use to have it and with over 35 mb of free memory it was still slow took a lot of resources for a pocket pc and deff wouldnt use it again best bet just used coreplayer i want something that looks nice and yet i still have a lot of memory for other applications

it doesn't depend on the RAM - it's just a CPU hog.
Again, I really recommend reading my latest MM-related articles - I've posted a LOT of numeric info on its CPU usage and real-world usability.
