Question Headphone (audio) level adjustment for car?

I am using my x51v's headphone output as AUX input into USA spec iPod/AUX adapter in my 2001 Volvo S80. (The stereo unit is HU-801 for any Volvo folks out there.) It works OK, but I have to turn up the car's stereo VERY loud for decent volume level, so I'm risking significant distortion at times. BTW, this isn't necessary when playing my Sirius unit through the Aux this way (probably because it has a specific audio output).

I am using TCPMP as my player, and have that volume turned up almost all the way, too. Do other players offer any options that might help?

Anyone have suggestions on if/how I can tweak the headphone output level from the Ax?

TIA

Adjust the equalizer in TCPMP and boost the pre-amp, but be prepared for some distortion. Other players also have this feature, but you can do it from TCPMP's equalizer page. Or just click on Options -> Audio -> Preamp Increase. :D

I don't know if it'll work with WM5, but X50Mix does that job excellently for me.

Thanks for this idea. I had already tried it, but there was some distortion.

Would this replace TCPMP, or offer an add-on function?

Well, after some cynically-driven procrastination, I installed x50Mix, and, voila!, it does exactly what I asked. I guess it's worth the added step of opening a 2nd program to listen to tunes in the car. Now it leaves me to wonder how it does this. I'll monitor to see if battery drain picks up, or if it's just "magic". ;)

EDIT: I just saw the original thread by Emulater, so I realize now how it's done through a hardware tweak. It seems that the changes "stick" even when the program is closed, so I assume that the changes are there until the next soft reset comes along.

david: the changes stick even after a soft reset. I THINK it is a registry hack. Though, I am not positive by any means.
