You can use this to copy any file type (just make a change as detailed in the previous post) to add or change the file types.

I tried to get this to work for direct copy to the Axim, but I cannot directly access the Axim via a command line. I am going to look into this, and see if I can get it to work.

Yes, you should be able to, as the path of my SD card when connected via AS to my Vista machine is "Computer/HTC Prophet/Storage Card/".

Obviously, replace HTC Prophet with whatever you've named your Axim, and you should be able to copy the files w/o having to make duplicates of all media files in the mobsync'ed folder first.

Although, I simply use the fantastic Syncback SE for podcasts in the iTunes podcast folder, while I use another Syncback profile to sync the contents of my SD card sans the podcast/vidcast folder, as that is already synced with the iTunes folder. Both profiles run at lightening speed using the built-in card reader - much faster than the wired AS, and much much faster than Bluetooth AS.

I just re-read your post. Are you trying to initiate an AS-like connection from your PC? If so, I think all attempts at that have failed....

No, I've just written a script to copy my downloaded podcasts (which are copied to a bunch of folders) to my CF memory card.
I thought of copying them to my CF card through my Axim while connected through Active SYnc; but, as I think of that, it is slower.
I tried a couple of folder sync sw packages (like Mobsync), but they would constantly fail. I guessed mostly it was file size too big.

I think I'll just stick with copying files with my script.

If you download windowsmobilepowertoys.msi you can use cecopy.exe to move files onto your storage cards via activesync from the command line. I use this command for example in my bat file

cecopy /is /s %filename% "dev:\%StorageCard%\My Music\%playlist%\%artist%\%album%\%song%.%type%"

The only downside is that it is a one way copy and you can't remove files that I am aware of so you can't do an actual sync. As for me I am fine with the slow transfer rate because mine is usually transferring while I am asleep. When I am in a hurry I can just pull out the card and manually move the sync folder over with a card reader.

@Omacar mine will transfer .m4a|.mp3|.m4p|.mp4|.aif|.wav|.mov|.m4v|.mv4 files, but that implies nothing about playback on your device. AFAIK You would have to strip the DRM to play them back on the axim.

Sorry the files are no longer available because I switched ISPs. I have actually adopted a different approach as well. I use the free commandline software found at this site - EricDaugherty.com - iTunes Export M3U Playist Exporter

I have also switched to Juice for managing my podcasts since iTunes always stopped downloaded content if I wasn't listening to it on their device.

QTfairuse continues to strip DRM from iTunes without any problems. They usually update their site within a few days of a new release of iTunes software.

Lastly I am using Mobsync to keep these files synced up with my Axim. The only frustration with mobsync is that it throws a fit and error if you have it running in the background and remove the Axim from the cradle. The error says something about rapifunc or something.

This is a good solution for me right now. I schedule the commandline to run everyday on select playlists and I have mobsync also point to the folders that Juice sets up. Definitely not a straight forward way of doing it but its free and gets the job done for me.

I tried a newer version of NewsReader it worked very well, and you got the podcasts right on your Axim.
I had an older version which I purchased but it was too long ago to get a free upgrade.
I just haven't tinkered with this much as I have rebuilt my home PC and have only been downloading podcasts here and there.
I might just get NewsReader and be done with it.

Isn't Juice just something that goes through iTunes? I believe I tried it, but found it as slow as iTunes.

sorry, really busy lately. Yes it is completely automated. I'll explain more when I get a chance. Are you more interested in the podcasts or music playlists from iTunes? Also are you using Vista or XP? I don't know if mobsync works with Vista, anybody else know?

Okay I put the batch file up on a new site if you want to give it a try, its here. If you are unsure about how to automate this process just post your questions here. By the way this whole process uses all free software.

Wow, been a while. was busy with work for a while and forgot; I'm back to my axim though.

So, how do I go about completely automating the process of exporting a playlist from itunes and syncing with my axim? I'd like it to happen once a day or something like that.
