I ripped some DVD's and brought them down to a nice size for my Axim, but I can only encode to AVI... What software should I use to play it? (preferably free)

to aximsite! Site search is our friend. There are several good threads about ripping and viewing, with discussions about format and viewers. You'll find lots of good info, out there. You can still find betaplayer which is the open source version of Coreplayer.

Yep...coreplayer, betaplayer, its called TCPMP now...and can be found here...
