There is no option to FAT16/4K. It starts in 8K for FAT 16.
I finally got winampq working thanks, I still have to figure my main issue, to hear my music properly. I will be testing it today.

Thanks

Thanks for your help, I finally installed winampq, my doubt is regarding the format type cause there is no option for FAT 16/4K IT STARTS FROM 8K, THE 2K AND 4K options are available only with FAT32. I will test my music tonight.

Thanks.

I've had exactly the same problem and I've fixed it!!!!

I had mp3's which I copied onto the 1G IBM microdrive via the axim and they would play for about 10 seconds then stop. reset the axim, reformatted the drive, verified the drive, ran scandisk on the drive, tried mp3's with different bit rates, all sorts of stuff. Nothing seemed to fix it and I assumed my microdrive was on it's way out.

Another one of my problems was also the fact that I couldn't copy large files onto the microdrive. They seemed to hang at what I perceived to be the amount of free memory the Axim had.

Anyway to try and get around this I purchased a 7in1 USB card reader. Put the microdrive in it, reformatted it as FAT32 (using XP) and copied mp3s onto it.

lo and behold it works fine now. plays 60M mp3's no problem.

So I asked myself, was it the fact that I'd used tools on my Axim to reformat the microdrive as fat16? So I've just copied a 16M mp3 onto the microdrive via the Axim (instead of via the 7in1 USB reader) and it stopped playing it after 10 secs.

So my assumption is that for some reason either the Axim itself or PocketPC is corrupting the mp3 during transfer. I paid ~£11 for the 7in1 USB reader, so they aren't expensive. And now I've got a decent mp3 player again. Hope that helps

Unixbob - I really appreciate your post. I had exactly the same probs, and was just about to bin my microdrive. Formatted it in Windows XP and it now works perfectly.

Thanks again.

My cards are formatted to fat32 and I haven't had any problems playing mp3's on wmp9 with the cf cards. My sd card rebuffered once. Other than that, no problems.

I have an Ax 5 Advanced with a SanDisk 256M CF card that I purchased at Costco for approx. $50. I copied MP3 files from my pc to the CF card via ActiveSync manually and they play fine using Conduits Pocket Player.

Hmm

I think the problem may be due to the size of the mp3's. I get the impression that instead of doing a direct copy and buffering some of the writes in RAM, Pocket PC is copying the whole file into internal memory, before then dumping it to the CF storage. It's certainly not an activesync problem because I've found the same thing when copying a 100M mp3 from the Microdrive to a 128M SD Card when both are internal to the PcoketPC

I am also having the same problems. I had recently cut from cf card to sd card through the axim file explorer and songs hang up @ 10 to 15 second point no matter what player I was using.

Never thought of file corruption during internal axim transfer. Will try to reload from desktop to sd card via card reader.

I hope it works, thanks for the tip.

It worked. Loading mp3 to a card via activesync or card to card via axim explorer caused about 3 in 7 files to be screwed up and would play for only 15 seconds.

Reformatted my card via pocket mechanic, and reloaded mp3s via usb card reader and songs are playing sweet.

Playiing MP3s from CF card

I have PPC 2002, WMP 8.5. My MP3s skip and stop when playing from CF card.

I've tried reformatting to both FAT16 and FAT32. That did not help.

Any other ideas?

I copied about 75 mp3's directly onto a CF card (Sandisk too!) from my laptop, and have had no problems using WMP!

WMP doesn't play from CF card

I gave up on WMP, formatting the CF card, etc. WinAmpaq is able to play MP3s off the CF card.

Here is a possible solution that worked for me:

Problem: Axim X5 Advanced with 256mb SanDisk card that was new.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Seems like a problem with compact flash card because axim played SD card songs (3)+ without problems
Then immediately played CF card songs and problem occurred first song within 16 seconds
Copied SD card song to CF card, problem still; note I used a mp3 for this and all songs on CF are WMA VBR
Copied CF song to SD problem occurred !!! This seems inconsistent unless it’s a format issue, and the format is preserved when copying to SD
Closed all programs and problem still
Did soft reset got virus warning on pc - maybe its on the PDA?
Cleaned virus, soft reset, ran WMP problem still
Scanned PDA no viruses.
Formatted card as 32bit 8k; copied one song; played it still problem
Emailed Sandisk tech support. No response after 1 week.

Solution: Changed processor speed from max. to normal. Played fine (tested 7 songs). Note this was after a soft reset. To be doubly sure, reformatted CF card FAT32 4k clusters, copied songs again (WMP9). Played songs on normal processor speed - ok ! Changed to max. processor speed - Problem reoccurs !!

Hope this helps any of you; please let me know either way. It might be interesting to know which processor speed those folks who experienced problems were using.

Peace,
Hank
