it does, they might be encoded with windows media 9. i think pocket pc 2003 fixes that.

.wma and .mp3 are the only two audio types supported by Media Player 8.5 and previous versions. It does not support WMA9, however, which is why any .wma or .wmv files encoded with Windows Media Encoder 9 won't play audio on Pocket PC 2002.
Windows Mobile 2003 does support the 9.0 codecs, however. | |||||

When you're encoding with media encoder 9, you need to use the 7 audio codecs listed in the menu. This only applies to WMV files. The audio to audio conversions seem to play fine on mine using the pocket PC template.
