The best music player

I am looking for a media player with a graphic equalizer, but I am a little low on money. So if it could be cheap, or free that would be good. I would also like it to able to play wma files.

Thank you!

I use pocketmusic and love it, there is a trial version that lets you adjust the EQ and when you purchase it you receive a bunch of presets and the ability to save custom settings. I have heard that the EQ

with mp3 is the best in my opinion.....no skinz support (yet) but you can get a better sound out of it and it works with mp3's that would skip on pocket music....

Is this what you are talking about coolhand? Link

I have yet to find a MP3 prog that sounded good. PocketMusic is the closest I've heard. Is withMP3 really worth the $15? I think the audio on the Axim is kinda weak. It just doesn't sound as good as my Rio SP100 or my brothers Treo 15. ...not that MP3s sound all that great anyways.

thats the one....best in my opinion.....it was cool with pocket music to be able to use winamp skins, but in the end sound quality is what counts, and this is the best in my opinion

Hey thanks, soon as I get home I'm gonna download trial and mess with it tomorrow at work. What limitations are on the trial version?

I just tried withMP3, it's decent. I like the interface and it sounds better than PocketMP3. It still sounds bad at higher volumes, most likely the Axim's audio section saturating. Might be worth the $15. Thanks for the info. BTW, what headphones are you using with that eq setting?

the axim distorts with every player ive tried at full volume....note in the preamp i have it a bit lower than normal...with this setting i can have the main volume one step below full and get good clarity..

the main thing i noticed with withmp3 is i could get a better bass out of it before it distorted...

the headphones i use are actually cheap panasonic headphones..for what ever reason, they have an awesome sound compared to more expensive sonys etc i tried with it...

I, too, get best results from withMP3. True all the players distort at high gain levels. This is a limitation of the output power of the Axim. When I pump my Axim through the church sound system, the quality drop from the CD player is minimal. Sounds nice plugged into the car stereo too. For phones, I use some 9.95 Sony clip on phones that sit sideways in the ear. I get much more output without distortion at minimal long term discomfort.

I'm actually gonna starting trying all the headphones I can find. I'll have to stop by BestBuy and just start plugging them in. With my Grado SR60s and SR40s, it sounds completly horrible, the Ax does not have enough power to drive them. A pair of Koss Porta-Pro's play louder but they are uncomfortable. I know the Ax wasn't supposed to be a real dedicated MP3 player, but I expected better performance. I think I just need to find the right match, need a really sensitive pair.

The headphone jack is very underpowered in the Axim.
You can always get a portable headphone amp

http://www.tangentsoft.net/audio/amp-quote/index.html

check out the two mint tin boxes.

Using withmp3 + headphone amp with my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro@600 impedance, I get fantastic sound from the little axim.

Best headphones without an amp for the Axim would have to be the Koss KSC-35.
However I use Sony w.ear because of their cool look
