CF vs CFII vs SD vs MMC Shootout!
Im bout to buy a 256 or 556mb card... what should i get... im going to use it for mostly music and movies and/or music videos.
The Music vids i will probly be playing at 320X256 and with a MAX bitrate at 2000kb/s
Music only at 160kb/s max
and i dont know what im gonna be playin moviez at yet.
I was about to get a Secure digital card or MMC because I want to put an extra accessory in the CF slot, isnt MMC and Secure digital cards slower than the CF's?
It seems they would be since the mmc card like only has 6 connections, while the CF has about 25? :crooked:
Which is faster, MMC or SD?, why would I want to get a SD card what is the Secure for anyways?
should I look into a CFII drive or just save my money?
Another thing im still on USB 1.1, my transfers are very slow and is it worth it to upgrade?
I respect and Appreciate any Helpful Replies
Thanks in Advance

My personal preferance is to have a large (512 MB in my case) CF card for movies and music, and a smaller (64 MB) SD card to store my programs on when I want to use WIFI.
The CF is a lot faster, and MMC is the slowest. Really there is no benifit to getting MMC instead of SD. SD is faster, cheaper, and the "Secure" part is that there is a platic tab that can be switched back and forth, allowing you to lock the card so you don't accidentally erase anything important.
I would suggest getting a card reader before upgrading to USB 2. I use a PCMCIA adaptor with my CF card, and a movie which would take 1/2 hour to transfer using Activesync takes about 2 min. using the adaptor.

I do the same thing as smeg36. I keep a 256mb SD in at all times and I install all applications to it. I have a 128mb CF card for games and music, and a 512mb CF for movies. I try to avoid installing to main memory when I can, so that I have as much RAM available for movies, etc. as possible. Not to mention that it just runs faster with more free RAM.
For speed - CF is definately faster than SD.

How does the speed of the "Built in Storage" compare to CF and SD?

I have a 128MB SD card for programs++, and a 512MB CF card for mp3 files and some maps. I need the SD card because I also use the CF slot for WIFI.
I find the SD card quite a bit slower to write to than the CF card, but reading from it seems to be OK.
If you don't need the CF slot for other things it's no need to buy an SD card as they cost about twice as much pr. megabyte.
If you need your CF slot for other things than memory my suggestion is to buy a 64 or 128 MB sd card to store your programs and other things you want to have access to all the time, and to use a CF card for music and other stuff.

Check Your Specs Carefully
I always thought that SD was rather slow until I checked all the Simpletech SD specs. The performance jump in R/W speeds going from the 128 Mb to the higher cap cards was almost TRIPLE. Most of the other vendors don't advertise their specs (wonder why?).
Even Kingston now offers high-performance CF cards but they still don't reach the Simpletech SD speeds.
