I was moving some .wma/.wmv files around from main memory to CF card, and deleting others to clean things up. I accidentally deleted the "default.skn" file for WMP...or at least it's association within the
program (the file is in ROM).

Via File Explorer I went into Windows and copied and pasted the .skn file into WMP. I get an error telling me the file isn't associated to any program and that I must rerun the program to reassociate the file.
I went back into WMP and selected skin chooser and nothing happened. The file is still not "associated".

I also tried putting the file ino WMPTemp...same results. I then tried a file "default.lnk" (properties says it's a link to default.skm and definitely names it for wmp8.5). Also no luck. :(

Do I have the right file? Is it back in the right directory? How do I get this file reassociated with WMP so I can use a skin-chooser?

I already have Win Media Skin Chooser, but it can't open any skins file because "default" isn't there. Does the "default.skn" reside in a "skin" folder in WMP? All I have under WMP is WMPTemp

Strangely enough, WMP still works just fine, even though it no longer has a "default" skin.

Chris,

You can re-download the WMP default skin here at the MS Windows Media site :D

That'll fix your problem - or should. Follow the instructions (here) to install the skin, then soft reset the device! Make sure that you place "default.skn" in your "\Program Files\Windows Media Player" folder, though - even though it says to move the entire folder over, make sure that it is also in the root Windows Media Player folder.

HTH,

Nick

Thats odd, when I deleted mine all I had to do is put another theme in the folder. You must have done more than just delete the theme.

Yes the skin goes in the root of the WMP folder under program files.

Chris,

A hard reset'll do it - that's for sure. Sorry to see you having to go through all that headache, though! :(

Good luck.
