What audio format do you use on your iPAQ?

There are so many audio formats available today. Some of the more popular formats can be played on today's PPC's. What format do you use to listen to music on your PPC? And how is the performance on your PPC in relation to the CPU and the battery?

I use ogg format... 80K bitrate sounds surprisingly good and I have the option of using different players. formats like wma and ram limit your options. (though I HAVE been playing around with 80K wma files since my solid-state mp3 player can play wma files)

I've been using MP3's at 128 only because I haven't tried anything else... I'll keep an eye on this thread for suggestions. Are wma's smaller? Most of my files are at 128.

I found that OGG's work for me. I compress at 96 Kbps bitrate, Variable bitrate at a Frequency of 44100 Hz. At that rate I can get filesizes smaller than MP3's at the same bitrate. Since I mostly listen to my audio files either on my car stereo or my earbuds at the sound quality is great. Now the sound probably would not sound as good on my audio system in my house but my OGG's are not meant for that.

I have decided not to use WMA because of it is not an open format. There are players on the market that will play WMA files other than Windows Media Player but there is not nearly as many that will play MP3 and OGG files. Plus the players that play MP3 and OGG files seem to be much better in functionality, IMHO.

How do you guys get your Bit rates down to 96k? I just got a 256mb card and I'd like to put 4-5CD's worth of music plus some programs on it. I'd like to get down to 60-96. I'm a n00b at this stuff though.

You ask how I do it, dbPowerAmp.

dbPowerAmp is one of the best utilities out there to convert audio from one format to multiple formats (MP3, OGG Vorbis, WMA, AAC,MP4, Monkeys Audio, FLAC, the list goes on). dbPowerAmp is a free. Just download it and go. To get the various formats, just download the codecs also available on the website. It is very user friendly. It also supports ripping from CD.

Whitelyt,
I downloaded the dbpoweramp, following your suggestion. IT is not clear how you could download to your PPC once the files have been converted?

You can use file transfer or just Sync them.

There is several ways that you can get your OGG files on your PPC. EnglishBob pointed out two. You could also use a card reader/writer (which is much faster then file sync or activesync transfer).

With dbPowerAmp it isn't. I have hundreds of MP3s that I wanted to convert to OGG files. With dbPowerAmp you can select all of the files in the folder, select your bitrate settings, click start and walk away. dbPowerAmp will do the rest. It will write the converted files to the same folder your MP3s are in or it will it to a folder of your choosing.

It is very nice to use.
