Media Player MP3 question
Do I save a significant amount of battery power when listening to MP3s on my Axim if I keep the backlight off? I would like to use my Axim on a plane trip and I do not have any need for an expensive iPod-like device. Anyone know the answer to this????
Thanks for the help. | |||||

an even better battery saving solution is to map the "screen toggle" function to one of the hardware buttons and turn the screen completely off while listening to music. you can also map the next/prev and stop/start functions as well. making it so you don't have to turn the screen on at all to navigate your play list.

OK. Now that I have all the buttons programmed and can now toggle the screen off, any idea what battery consumption is like when just listening to music? Also, can anyone give me an idea on how the sound quality from Axim compares with a true MP3 music player? Is it the same or what?

with the backlight turned to low you can probably get around 6.5 hours with the regular battery and twice that with the extended. With the screen off, I have heard of people getting over 10 hours with it and respectively twice that with the extended battery

there are a bunch of programs out there, sorry I don't rememeber the name of the one I tried out. from what I tried, I only got about a 10% difference in size for the same quality. which wasn't worth it to me.

Shadow,
Do a search on the net for audio converters or look on tucows. there are a bunch of programs that can convert just about any audio format. Jdigital, Use playlists. In WMP tap on "Select", then choose "Local Content" and then "Organize Playlists". This will allow you to create playlists that mirror the CD or groups that you want. pascalman, I think I remember reading that both Ogg and WMA have a format for audio that is 10% - 15% smaller than MP3. I think they can also get a similar quality at a lower bit rate, but I haven't fooled around with this stuff too much. Sorry for the late reply folks and good luck. Please post back here if you find anything good. | ||||
