geting video to work

i cant seem to get alot of video's to work, i understand it has to be avi mpeg-1 or mpeg-4 for the program i am using... pmvp. I tried recoding it or whatever the forum is at the top, and couldnt get it to work. I would always only get one job though i would follow the directions exactly, when i try to make it do the job it always has errors, and i tried a few times. Then when i load it to the ax i get a message twice saying it cant read the video and two messages for audio... so i cant figure out what is wrong and maybe someone could help me. There is no such thing as a program that would make take movies and convert the to be able to play on the ax, is there... but if someone could make one that would be awsome!

well now i got it to get two jobs, but there are only a few things i am confused about... doing the calculations with the size of the screen (what if the numbers dont match the ones in the guide)......... it sayes click codec 5.03 (or somthing like that) and mine is 5.05............... also when i go to get the jobs screen, and hit start, it gives me an error and sayes something about gain needs to be installed. One other things i was a little confused on it there are files i need to put into my system 32 files from virtual dub.. is this necc. for what i am doing?

You'll be best off by reading the whole thread/discussion, and not just the guide itself.

5.0.5 is fine, it just means you have a newer version than the guide was written with. However, when you configure DivX you will need to disable B-frames in 5.0.5 as the current Pocket MVP does not support that feature at all.

As for your other messages, you will need to post the exact message, otherwise we really don't have a clue what's going on.

AVI is just a container, similar to MOV. It's the codecs involved with creating the audio and video inside the container that can be a problem sometimes. VirtualDub can only work with codecs that are labeled "Video For Windows" (aka VFW). Some AVIs are produced that use other codecs that are not VFW, so VirtualDub can't open them.

the exact message i get when i try to do the jobs is... you are using the ad-supported verison of Divx pro software. The GAIN advertising software must be installed on this computer in order to use Divx pro. It appears that the Gain software is not installed on theis computer. Please re-install the Divx Pro software and try again........ i have already re-downloaded it and re-installed it, and i dont know where to get the "GAIN" so im a little lost.

GAIN is just adware, meaning you'll see the odd ad pop up. in order to use the full version of divx encoder you need gain installed (or you can buy divx in which case it won't install GAIN). My guess is you ran a spyware removal tool like adaware or spybot search and distroy. These programs will remove GAIN, effectively breaking teh divx encoder. Just install divx again. If you keep getting the error then you must have something running that keeps removing it. do you have a spyware removal app running on every startup or something?

it had a problem with a certiain frame, so does this mean the file is corrupted......... and im still a little confused with the resizing, the file 240x180, so what do i do, its not one of the one he mentions.

Don't even bother with DivX Pro unless you do some non-PPC video encoding. PocketMVP doesn't support any Pro features whatsoever, and as red-i said, GAIN is just adware.

Just install the basic freebie version and be done with it.

In VirtualDub, when you're in Video->Compression configuring your DivX for encoding, go to all the 'other' tabs and disable everything that's checked. The only tab you need to be working with for PPC video is the Bitrate Control tab.
