Problems w/ Pocket-DVD Studio: Can't sync audio w/ video
I have an IPAQ 1945 and have tried 2 different movies while using two different memeory cards.
Can somebody share some advice on how to correct the problem? There is about a 1-2 second delay. Is there a better piece of software that works consistently as I spent $32 and have nothing to show for it. I am going to Europe in two weeks and would like a few movies for the plane. I don't know enough about manually converting dvd to avi format and don't have hours upon hours to watch it happen. Any/all help is appreciated. Thanks Anthony atwnsw@lycos.com

anthony,
have you gotten any success yet w/ your issue? i've recently converted 3 episodes of Friends DVD, Timeline, Airforce One, Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Italian Job, a couple of episodes from Queer as Folk- And all seem to work fine on my PPC. W/ the usual pixelation at times (nothing drastic in my opinion) At times, the sound will stumble-- but very rare occassion of the voice/sound being off-sync w/ the video itself. The settings i use for input- angle 1 (default). "None" on the interlace box (although i had a problem first w/ Timeline- i guess i was choosing Odd/Even interlace option- my fault for jumping ahead of conclusion- most DVDs i've converted i just left the 'interlace' in 'none-default', but its good to check. For output settings, i choose under 170 mb for a 2 hour movie, or less. 80kbs audio (better than FM) 22khz 320/176 resolution, Mode 4 20fps joint stereo Yes at times, rare though, the voice will be unsync w/ the video- but it refreshes quickly and resumes properly. Either way, i'm just glad i'm able to figure out the issues-- i guess i expected for it to work flawlessly right out of the box- from a consumer point of view, but being that this little software, once you're able to figure out the proper settings for it to work on your device, it really is a very good project that provides hours of good entertainment. I'm confident also that the software developers would come out w/ newer, better version in the future... goodluck

Best piece of software is VirtualDub. Save audio to wav first and then convert using video from video source and audio from wav file.
Perfect video/audio sync every time. And its free. Sorry but I personally hate these all in one programs and dont see the point of a piece of software that claims to be specifically for PocketPC. The only difference is the picture size it creates, quality, fps, etc. Which can be set in ANY converter software. There are 2 approaches I would use (which use freeware) : First recommendation (what I use) : 1. DVDDecryptor or SmartRipper - FREEWARE 2. DVD2AVI - FREEWARE 3. HeadAC3he - FREEWARE 4. VirtualDub - FREEWARE Second (simpler for those not wanting to mess about with so many apps) : 1. DVD2SVCD (converts DVD to plain AVI) - FREEWARE 2. VirtualDub (converts the above avi to Divx, XVid or codec of your choosing). - FREEWARE Once you have set up a virtualdub template for your ideal PocketPC settings it really is a piece of cake. But it gives you so much more control over the output. I suppose you may also want a bitrate calculator to work out what bitrate you want for a certain file size. I use the second approach when I'm feeling lazy. Creating the avi first is good so that I can create two Divx files from it. One for normal use on my PC or Kiss player and then another smaller one for use on my PocketPC. I can even setup Virtualdub to produce both at the same time. But I should add, this is my opinion. Plenty will prefer the all in one solution and fair enough.

I just downloaded DVD to Pocket PC 1.2.3 for $22 from Pocketgear.com. It seems to work great with converting DVD movies to .wmv files. I'm watching Black Hawk Down on my 1945 as I type. There is a feature that allows you to synchronize audio with the video. The first few movies that I ripped, I didn't do this and I got the audio lag.
Hope this helps, Uncle Scary over and out.
