Agreed - bandwith, development, equipment is expensive. But no where near as expensive as warehouses full of inventory, or the cost to ship that inventory around the country. There is 0 inventory cost (physical or taxable) in the pay per download model. It's gone from $1/song to as low as $.79/song (maybe lower) so hopefully it will get where it needs to be eventually.
Just my .02.

If you have at sometime purchased a record and haven't sold your rights to the music, feel free to download the mp3's.
I remember when mp3.com opened up a service, which only lasted a week or two, that let you scan what cds you have and then you could listen to them from any computer with a high speed internet access.

That would be legal. It is legal to make and use copies of what you own as long as the original is not accessible at the same time as the copy.

My position on all this:
Untill I see CD's hit stores at $0.50 per GOOD song and $0.25 per CRAP song, or untill I can download these at the same price, PLUS untill I KNOW that at least 65% of the $ I pay goes to the ARTISTS and not to the "get RIAA's CEO a new Porsche" fund, Both RIAA, MPAA, and all the recording industries can kiss my @$$. These ppl make like 85% of the profit from record sales (meaning that of the $15 u pay for a CD, $6 MINIMUM is going to forementioned fund. I think that the should make like $0.60 or less. Basically, my goal in posting this message and in everything else I tell people is to cut the CEO's out of my bill for music. They make about $5 MILLION a year, thanks to who? you, me, and every other person who pays them to sit in their ofices and rip us off.

true, but if artists went to the system I mentioned, more people would buy the music at the same profit for them, = more money for them... I don't see why some of the big artists like Eminem or Linkin Park haven't told these guys to go f... themselves yet, it would only be more money for them and better for us, so the only ppl that get screwed are the CEO's and RIAA, and I for one don't give a rat's rear end about either..

Why would they do that? Both of them for one have signed contracts that they have to honor and two they are making money hand over fist because of the contract. Whether you like it or not, without the RIAA, we would have never heard of either. Maybe in the future things will change, but hell Eminem is making movies for these guys.

What kind of crappy bands do you listen to that only have 2-6 good songs on them?
For all you people worried about the artist lossing out on their money that they should earn from the sale of their cd's/music, buy from independant labels. more money goes to the actual artist then to the people running the label.

Not quit of the topic, but wal-mart either has or will start selling songs online for .88 A little cheaper than the other places. I for one don't care to buy my music this way. I have a couple shops in my town that buy and sell used cd's.(2 for $10) Way cheaper than downloading and I can copy at any quality I want instead of the companies doing it.
