Ripping Cd To Mp3. Favorite.

I was just curious what software most people use to rip favorite cd's to mp3? (Buyware or Freeware). Thanks.

If you plan to put this on your Axim, try using Windows' proprietary (sp) format .wma. Its better compression - a lot smaller but keeps pretty much the same quality for a lot less space then MP3. Thats what I used to fit twice the amount of music on my MP3 / wma player then it was spec-ed to. I 'd used Windows Media Player (9.0 now, on XP Pro) for doing that.

BTW, i don't think this is in the right fourm. Maybe this should go into Newbie questions?

I use MusicMatch to rip and withMP3 on the Axim to play. I agree WMA is smaller for the same quality but MS got greedy and I can't rip them with Music Match anymore. Also, the ones I did in the past say the license cannot be found and won't play on the Axim. I own the CD's I made the WMAs from and MS says I can't play them. I'll do MP3 thank you. Besides withMP3 is a way better player than WMP

You can convert your mp3's to wma using windows media encoder. It is free on the microsoft website. I use version 9 and the wma's sound great.

Microsoft has a package for XP that adds a analog recorder, works pretty well too for tapes anyway. It makes WMA files and includes a file translator but mp3 is an extra charge. If you want to translate WMA to mp3 you have to pay another fee to add that capability (I think it was another ten bucks download). The main package was like ten bucks on sale and it also does such things as sync your music files with your handheld using activesync. I think this is the same software that comes with the XP multimedia version that doesn't seem to be sold oem as far as I can tell.
