I'm going on a trip soon and would like to take a full episode of MST3k with me in case the inflight movie turns out to be "Dunstan Checks In'. I have a 128CF card that is to small to accomodate my MST movies. I need about 160Mb or so no matter how I seem to play with it (Virtuadub or WMA). So I'm looking at 256 cards. Is there a difference in playback from an SD card versus the nice performance I've seen from my CF card? I ask as the SD card will be about $25-30 more. And that's money better spent on food to bring on the plane. :P
So...
Will I get good movie playback from a 256 SD card?

I'd get SD that way your CF will be free for something else. SD can only hold memory at this point.

I know about 'memory only'. That's not the point here. I will NOT be using a modem, wireless, etc on a plane and therefore do not need anything but a big lump of memory. Because I am too lazy to want to play with a few installs I already have on my CF card (including MVP) I debating getting an SD card despite the extra cost and because it can be my 'permanent' movie card.

However, IF the playback is slower than a CF card such that I can't watch movies off of it then it's pointless to buy it. (I'll get a smaller one as an MP3 holder maybe)

The question stands (rephrased a scrap):
If I buy an SD card instead of a CF card to watch movies will I be disappointed by the playback?

SD is faster than CF, but I doubt it will make any difference since the processor on the Axim is most likely going to limit you more than the memory card.

Go to memorysuppliers.com and get yourself a IBM 1GB microdrive, they have them for $216.00, or a 512 Microdrive for $159.00. I use one in my digital camera and writes at blazing speeds compaired to a conventional Compact Flash card, I cant wait to get my Axim and use it in there.

IBM just sold their Microdrive business to Hitachi, now Hitachi boosted the Microdrive to 4GB (due out later this year), I wonder if that is enough room to watch a full two hour movie on the Axim, if the battery holds out.

I've used various makes and sizes of CF cards in the Axim with video clips and mp3 files. I have one 128 Sandisk SD card that I use to save video clips (3-5min) for demo purposes. Both cards seem to play video well (via PocketMVP).

As soon as I finish the new desktop system I plan to vdub full length movies.
