Streaming music/videos over Wifi?

Not sure if I should place this in WiFi or here...so here goes.

I have an RX3100 currently and am planning on upgrading to an HX4700 this week. I have a couple questions regarding these two PDAs.

What I want to do is play music/videos and view pictures from my main PC HD over my PDA's WiFI connection. On the 3100 I have Nevo software which does this (not well though). I don't think the 4700 comes with Nevo software.

So my questions:

What software is best for doing this sort of thing?

Is there a way I can play files "directly" via the PDA..ie by simply browsing to the Desktop with file explorer?

Is there a way to do playlists with Nevo?

Thanks for your help.

At home I use a combination of 3 programs to view movies on my PDA. First I use Virtual dub to re encode my movies/tv eps so they are suitable for viewing on the ipaq (5450) And then I use Resco File explorer to browse my desktop PC, and then just open the file via the ipaq so it plays in Beta player. Done and done very simple.

So Beta Player will let you view things via streaming? I am less worried about movies than I am about my music. Mainly I want to be able to listen to streaming music over the Ipaq, movies are a secondary perk..

you can map the drive using resco, so beta player will think it's playing off your ipaq's memory ^_^ In other words, it works. i've done it myself

Like Eva04 most people prior to the new PPCs with the Nevo Media Suite mapped a shared drive from their PC to the PPC to play videos and audio. Doing it via Resco File Explorer is the best way.

The option is also there is you do have Nevo Media Suite. It works pretty well. You're just limited in the formats you can use however.

I do many of the things listed here and if you are interested in some more info on how I do it, please view my review (in my signature) but I have a question--I hooked my Sony MiniDV camcorder up to my computer via firewire and have WindowsMediaEncoder running to enocde video and send it wirelessly (or not) to my ipaq but after I click start once and then stop, it won't start encoding anymore. I think it thinks it needs a tape in the device. Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone had the same or a similar problem?

Hi,
I've tried to stream digitaltv and now from my minidv cam using windows media encoder. Both came up with the same errors "the requested video codec is not installed on ths system". Any ideas?
