DVD rippers

Does anyone know of any techniques to get a movie from a DVD to a usable file on the computer? I'm looking for a freeware, no frills utility to get the file from my DVD and make it so I can put it on my ipaq.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Do a google search on ''dvd decrypter''. This will decode a dvd movie and save it to your hard drive.

Then search for ''dvd shrink''. This will allow you to shrink those above created files to save room. It will aslo allow you to remove stuff you don't want like other languages, special contents, susbtitles.

All for free, enjoy!

dvd decrypter is free...

i dont recall dvd shrink being free, and i also dont recall it being able to encode the files into mpeg, divx, or avi.... possibly i'm wrong? i use a combination of dvd decrypter (free) dvdx (free) and mvideo ($12.95, which also comes with mdvd which is supposed to be an all in one dvd to ppc program, but its buggy) and mine work perfectly at about 120mb each

Thank you guys so much. I'm trying out the techniques right now. I really appreciate your help. Now go about the day thinking about how you helped someone and how you're a great person.

My process is:

- Rip to hard disk - with either Smartripper or DVD Decrypter - 10 minutes
- 'Edit' the film with DVD Shrink (basically I cut off the 'trailers' at the start and the majority of the end titles. - I have DVDShrink create one large file (set at 100%) - 5 minutes
- PocketDivxEncoder - to encode the movie with the settings as per my earlier post - approx 1.5 hours (I normally set it to do four films - overnight). This is on a system with an AMD1600XP & 512mb of RAM & 2 hard disks - I use one for the large file and decode the small file onto the other.

Currently I have done this to about 25 or so DVD's that I own (to give me a selection) and I have had no problems with any of them
Regards

For episodes I use the "edit" mode in DVD Shrink as stated above.

(I also use it to do the same to a comedy sketch in the middle of a full set etc).
