Dvd2dvd,dvd2vcd,dvd2divx
I have just updated my Guides on Ripping your DVDs for backup and watching on the go and would like some input from you guys and gals and would really like some of you to try out the DVD2DIVX Guide itself. It seems to be one of the fastest and easiest ways to get your DVD on your PPC for free and can be adjusted to what quality you want to the size of memory card you have that I have found.
I have seen all the talk about FairUse and other programs here in the forums, but I have also seen allot of people have problems with them. I'm just trying to do my part in making this kind of thing easy to do with as little trouble to people as I can. Its a shame that now days we have to go through so much just to use OUR Media that we paid for and have fair rights to just to use it in the way we want. So if you would give it a shot and lets see if this way of doing it makes any difference or not. I've tested it on 2 PC's and 2 Laptops and not a single problem. But my PC's have basically the same software programs on them so I need some outside input. Just click the link in my Sig and then the "Ripping DVDs" button in the navigation bar just to make sure all the links work. Thanks.

This might seem strange to a few folks, but that's sort of how I work ...
Is it possible to create an avi or divx or something directly from an ISO file? Let's say (just for the sake of arguement) that I have a few ISO files and I don't want to burn them just to rip 'em again in order to get the movie on my PPC. Any ideas?

I will check it out as soon as I get home. If I leave early, I can get home before my wife does ... naahhh, then she'll expect me to make dinner or something. OK, I'll check it out as soon as the baby is in bed ![]()

Regarding your Guides, some thoughts for you :
1. on my systems I can't select DEmacrovision and Keysearch can't be changed 2. If someone wants to make clips from the resulting file then some re rendering will be needed that has an effect on quality. What application are there that would allow you to make clips without re rendering the file. 3. The files I made were very good quality, perfect for the ppc. I used pocketDivX encoder to make the clips and in this proccess I lost some quality, putting the bit rate to 500 when encoding the ripped DVD helped I own a number of Music DVD's that is why clips are of interest.

OK. Really cool information, but a couple of questions.
1. On the Output Settings for DVD2DIVX, the DIVX 5.2.1 Codec doesn't show up. Where can I get this? Are other settings ok? 2. I used ActiveSync to transfer the file and my PPC didn't recognize it as a media player file even though my laptop did. Any thoughts? Thanks for the great tutorial.

After using the divx codec you will have the file needed to be sent to your PPC. But you must also have a divx player on your PPC in order for it to play. I highly recommend the latest Unstable BetaPlayer found here http://betaplayer.corecodec.org/ Note don't let the word Unstable scare you, its better than the stable.

When I open the player on my PPC, I get an error message. "Video files (AVI, DIVX): Video and Audio data are not interleaved. This type of AVI file is not properly supported." I really appreciate your tutorial.
