DVD to Pocket PC Upgrade

I recently purchase DVD to Pocket PC and successfully copied a movie. I then received an email, from the software company, explaining that there is now an upgrade. I have 2 questions - 1) has anybody out there used the new upgrade yet with the 4700 and did you have any problems? 2) Since I purchased the older version within the past month - the email stated that I was entitled to a free upgrade. When I downloaded it there is a "buy" option in the toolbar - did anybody have the same results when they downloaded it?

I would like to get some idea if this is an actual upgrade that will provide a better result for my movie watching on my hp4700 or is this a marketing gimick.

I was going to try this out but since I purchased it a while ago it will cost me $14.95 to upgrade. The first step of the process is supposed to be 20% faster and it will also allow you to convert other video files you have on your CPU along with DVD's.

I would definitely upgrade if I were you and if you need a new key their support is fantastic through e-mail.

I did decide to upgrade - the new version will not work and I tried to copy twice and the same error showed up (after 2 1/2 hours) I have an email into the support center so I will see what there answer is. My PC is running XP and the error message states ...Pocket PC 2.0 has encountered and error and needs to close.

Right now I am glad I did not uninstall the earlier version.

Sorry to hear that, I just got the e-mail from them for the discount on the upgrade and was thinking about it. Let us know what support says, I have had good experiences with them.

I have heard back from the support group they have asked me for the following...

"Could you send me the accompanying error log called accompat.txt? The
easiest way to find the 'appcompat.txt', is to leave the crash window that
shows the path to the file open, and at the same time browse to the right
folder from My Computer.
Please report back to me if your problem remains unresolved"

This, of course is greek to me but I will try it this weekend and see what happens.

Update -

I found the file that they were looking for and sent it to them. They (support) now wants me to run a test to determine if the issue is with the encoder that they bundled with the software and then report back to them. I am not an IT person by trade but this sound to me like I am alpha testing their software???? Oh well will try what they are asking for and see what happens?

that sucks! Both Pocket DVD Studio and now DVD-PPC seemed to have problems with their upgraded software when the originals worked as advertised. I certainly hope both companies get their act together.

Anyone else having problems with the new DVD-PPC?

Anyone else having problems with the new DVD-PPC?

Since my original posting I have been going back and forth with the customer service suppot for this application. After many emails, a few "tests" and a follow-up email to know what the status is, I was informed that the software would not work on my system. (running XP AND the original version of this software). They offered me a refund (note the upgrade was free) - so I guess that is there way of saying that they have problems with this upgrade. I would recommend to anybody thinking about upgrading NOT TO DO IT. I wasted a lot of time on something that, in my opinion, was never ready to be released!

I know there have been other suggestion out there for copy DVD'd which included a betaplayer and encoder. I look at the tutorial and from my perspective they appear to be a bit complex. Can anyone out there provide me with VERY simple instructions on how to copy DVD? The orginial version of DVD to PPC take approx 3 hours and then some thimes crash - I am looking for a better solution.
