Pocket DVD studio Help with poor quality & Settings
I've been playing around with Pocket DVD studio, I've tried different settings but all video seems very poor quality unwatchable in fact.
Moving subjects have halos around them and very blocky and dark. Anyone have any "magic" settings for widescreen movies, I have 1gb sd card so don't mind movies at 256mb. or I'm I expecting too much from my ipaq 6315? Thanks Dean ![]()

Despite more than a little flakiness from the company, PocketDVDStudio is the most consistently dependable of the programs I use to encode movies for my 4355--and I usually ask for files no bigger than 230mb. I think they look really good, and when I show them to friends, they always comment on how sharp the picture is. Which version of Studio are you using? And what are you using for playback? I will have to get back to you on my version I think its the latest (I'm at work and Pocket DVD is installed at home). I try a few times to encode but quality was poor, blocky shapes around moving ogjects. I'm using PocketMVP to play, could you post your settings.

I'm using an old version, 1.2.6, mainly because no later version can work with VirtualPC (I'm working on Macs). But it also seems that 1.2.6 was the last dependable version. There was a long discussion about this on this forum about a month ago. Scroll down the list of threads until you get to "Pocket DVD Studio help!!" if you want to check out people's issues with later versions. I play the movies with Betaplayer, and I think that makes a big difference. I've seen it make .avi files that I thought were complete disasters look just fine. There's a sticky at the top of this forum with how to get it. I'd install a copy and try your movies again. Maybe they're actually ok. Marc

I normally limit my movies between 256mb to 300mb. I use 320x240 pixel set up *full screen*, 24fps, and CD Quality audio. A 22minute episode of Friends- i set at 50-55mb-- and quality is good. Mind you, you will still have pixelization at high action/multi cut scenes. Otherwise you would have to go for a higher capacity to get a better quality video. I do use BetaPlayer- as i prefer its ease of use and somehow, a better quality on the video itself.
Too bad that a lot of new users are having problems w/ the new version. I have stuck w/ the older version- which seem to work fine for me- 1.2.6. E

I have version 3 of Pocket DVD studio
Downloading beta player as improved overall picture quality, but I still have to play around, the picture is very jerky and sound jumpy(in audible) I shell keep playing until I get something that I can watch. I'm also going to try one of the software tutorials on this forum and rip the DVD first then try one of the other softwares out there to resize it. Thanks Dean

I just downloaded the latest (3.1) last night, and it seems to work pretty good. I did a rip of Underworld not too long ago and the quality was good. I re-ripped it last night to get the audio subtitles off (couldn't do with the 3.0 for some reason), and haven't had a chance to look at the quality yet. Will have to do that soon as well, as I upped the quality of the audio as well.
Seems like they made some interface improvements too with 3.1, as I like it a lot better than 3.0. Also, just a thought, but what codec are you using for compression?
