OK, I知 trying to figure out the video downloading process and am starting at the bottom rung. Would somebody tell me if I知 understanding the components of the process. First I have to download some video to my desktop (either from the web or a dvd). Then I need to encode the video with Divx 5.02 so my ppc can read it. After that I run it through Virtual Dub (I知 not sure why) and then I down load it to a memory card and then play it back on my dell with either Pocket TV or Pocket MVP. Is that how it works?

Thanks

TB

Its not even that complicated really, PocketTV can view most mpegs, without any converting, many people convert it just to make it more pocket pc friendly, change the size of it and other things like that, but most video clips I download I can just drag and drop into my CF or SD card and play wth PocketTV.

Unless you are trying to do something more specific, like with a dvd ripping or something, then you should be able to view video without much hassle.

Virtual Dub will encode your rough file to AVI format, so you'll need Pocket MVP to view it. That is the encoding process. You can format large screen mpegs to a smaller file size for better storage capacity, and that may be the best feature. Reducing the resolution and frame rate is called resampling.
If you have small mpegs already, just play them directly with Pocket TV.

if i have avi movies i downloaded from kazaa can i play them in pocket mvp? i tried a couple movies but cant open them on my axim. i converted a avi movie with virtual dub to make it smaller. it worked but the sound is horrible and the picture isnt really that good. i you can play virtually any mpg without conversion, shouldnt you be able to do the same with an avi movie?

If the clip needs to be resized for the axim, or rotated, it requires extra processor use, and may become unplayable. The trick is to pre-process the file ... but 15 fps is good at full screen.

The tiny speaker on the Axim is MONO only and volume is wimpy, at best. For STEREO, you must use headphones.

PocketMVP's equalizer (File - Settings - Equalizer) does have a preamp feature that can help a bit.

Remapping of the Axim buttons (File - Settings - Configue) to NOT include volume (so you won't accidentally change volume) might help. I thought my Axim had died when I dropped it in my pants pocket and the volume slowly disappeared. The side jog button was tied to the volume and was activated while in the pocket.
