Future iPAQ purchase - which for video?
I plan to buy my first PDA, and it seems the HQ iPAQ is the best choice. Since I travel quite a bit, I would like to have a PDA that will partially substitute for my laptop, and perform the normal PDA functions, but also I plan to get into ripping DVDs onto my computer, then onto a PDA, to watch while waiting for my flight, or while on the airplane, etc.
I don't know which model to buy, however, an associate of mine was happy with his 2215, which has been discontinued. About the only thing I remember him saying was to make sure that the model has NEVO built in, and that there should be 2 card slots. Is this correct? Looking at the models at Costco.com left me pretty confused. There are a 5 models available, and 2 of them make reference to video capability. Both of these models have the rx designation, and the other three have the hx. Like I said, I am pretty confused by most of this stuff, and I guess I will try to look through some of the tutorials on this site and elsewhere. I would like the forum's recommendations on the following list that I have tried to replicate (copy and paste would not work) from Costco.com. I will not mention their prices here but they are a bit less than Office Depot. I certainly would appreciate any tips on other retail outlets for the iPAQ. HP IPAQ hx4705 624Mhz 192mb 4" TFT WLAN 802.11b, Blue Tooth 1.2 Charging cradle HP IPAQ hx2755 624Mhz 256mb 3 1/2" TFT 802.11b, Blue Tooth Desktop cradle HP IPAQ rx3715 400Mhz 152mb 3 1/2" TFT 1.2Megapixel Camera Charging cradle HP IPAQ hx2415 520Mhz 128mb 3 1/2" TFT 802.11b Blue Tooth Desktop cradle HP IPAQ rx3115 Samsung S3C 2440 300Mhz 56mb 3 1/2" TFT Thanks, The Flyer

Last fall I bought a 4700 and still think it is the best investment I've made in a while. The VGA screen is awesome for watching movies, and with a good set of headphones, it is quite an enjoyable movie experience. I also have a 4 Gig CF microdrive, and a 1 Gig SD card so storage isn't an issue, especially with both slots available on the 4700. The speed is remarkable sompared to some devices I've used. The touchpad takes some getting used to though.
My vote would be for the 4700

flyer,
I would vote for 4700 as well, especially after I upgraded the RAM to 128MB. The only downside is the Nevo, as this is not a built-in application for 4700, but if you want you can get some software, example Total Remote, from handango. http://www.handango.com/PlatformProd...t%5B2%5D_title The problem of the IR port is that it's on the bottom of the PPC.

Paul, Thanks for the handango website - I had never heard of it. Total remote sounds pretty good - and cheap too. I am not yet comprehending all that the remote devices do in general. After going to mynevo.com and taking the virtual tour of the Nevo software, I can see that it is employed in digital video rendering, etc. Basically I am wondering what the iPAQ, whichever model, can do right out of the box for watching video. Also, if it is really worth having the 4 inch screen, and being future proof, I might buy the 4705 if the video capability is still attainable through software purchase or upgrade. Maybe I'll first buy that PDA for Dummies book!!!

If you have a chance, go to Office Depot or STaples (whichever office supply store you have) and seee if they have a 4700. If so, compare the screen to the others...you will NOT be disappointed. If you were local (or knew someone local) you could look at one that's already set up...I only have a screen shot (few more at home) that shows the difference....look at My PDA to the left.

Driftless, Saw the 4705 at CompUSA this morning. Really a fantastic display. So was their price (NOT). No corporate discounts either for me at least - I had the young sales associate ask his manager.
