I don't believe there is a legal DL service for PPC movies. However, if you check eBay I know people sell them on there, fully converted and ready.

Downloading Legal movies that are both supersmall and work in WMP10 is going to be ... mostly illegal.

If you own the DVD, however, (and make sure you're on legal ground before doing it) you can convert the movie down to a smaller size and then transfer that to your SD card.

You can buy some software called Pocket-DVD Studio. This will compress DVD films down to, for good quality, 500mb. You can get it lower but the film is very pixelated. On a 1GB card I have had 5 films of not wonderful quality but watchable. For good quality, 2 films. The software costs approx. £30. Hope this helps.

I'll second Pocket-DVD Studio, tried loads of others but Pocket-DVD Studio is very simple, trouble free (mostly!!) and quick, takes about the same time as the film which is uick compared to the other software out there.

I use Pocket DVD Studio, and I compress them down to about 180MB per movie, with stereo sound.
Not pixelated at all. And for viewing on such a small screen, it looks pretty good!

Could I ask what settings you are using? I have tried several programs including Pocket DVD Studio with not so great results. I am sure I have something set incorrectly.

The Core Pocket Media player (formerly Betaplayer) has a link to a guide to convert movies using Auto Gordian Knot on the front page; http://tcpmp.corecodec.org/.
I recommend following that.

I compress to 320x240 screen size. It varies, apparently, depending on what PDA you have. I have a 2215.

TCPMP is a great player, because most of the formats on the web are already recognized by that player. So if you download in AVI or MPG format, you're already home free.

MOV and RM files will, however, require a conversion as TCPMP doesn't support those (yet, and I don't know if it will, either).

Also give www.ppcvidz.com a look, you can access it with PC or PPC with lots of free streaming videos like movie trailers and music videos and can download movies and clips if you become a member.

Legalities of downloading PPC movies......I hate this kind of stuff. If I can use my dvd recorder to record movies off HBO, or television programs, then there isn't really much difference if I download the program off the web. Yes, there is the difference of mass transfer to multiple people, versus single use, but it's really semantics, isn't it?

I'm not saying it is right, or wrong, but it goes way back to VHS and casette tapes. Just a bigger mass transfer now in the digital age.

In Canada, where I am from, it has been deemed legal to swap files, including music. In Singapore, where I am now, it is not legal so I don't do it.

Anyway, if you're not worried about the legal issues, do some torrent searching and you'll find massive PPC movies available in a variety of file sizes.

Cheers.

you can d/l anything you want online trouble-free. However, you CANNOT DISTRIBUTE copyrighted material nor can you sell copies, or publicly display for profit these copyrighted items. You could display a movies and invite people to it, but you cannot charge any money for it. You can play music outside your house, or anywhere in public (without disturbing the peace) freely. You cannot charge people money to watch/listen to the product.
