best settings with little or no dropped frames?
was doing some encoding on the matrix as a test.. I used 220kbps video bitrate, with 1 pass. for audio i did 22khz 56kbit stereo mp3. my resolution is 240x160 (i'm watching it portrait) however when i play my 1 min clip i get 50% dropped frames ..wtf??? i've got nothing else running and am using pocketmvp.. what are you guys using for settings? I want full framerate (not dec by 2) and stereo sound.

You won't get full framerate. The Ax can't handle much over 20 fps. On the small LCD screen 15-20 fps looks just fine anyway.

What are you using to encode the file? I'm using VirtualDub. I also set it for 2-pass, not 1.
I generally followed the instructions pinned in the multimedia forum and have had no problems. The only change I make is to bump up the colour saturation to 140% to counter colour loss on the Ax's screen.

i'm also using vdub (1.5.4).. if i decimate by 2 i get a 6.4fps average .. i don't get it.. this stuff was working before.. i'm gonna try reinstalling pocketmvp i guess.
one thing.. divx config used to have 1 pass, 2 pass first pass and 2 pass 2nd pass, now it says multipass 1st pass, multipass n-th pass.. hmmmm.. i know it's not related but how'd it change?
ok i just tried playing a johnny english vid that i encoded at 25 fps and it plays fine with very little dropped frames.. must be something stupid i did in vdub or something, the problem file plays fine on my pc so the encode worked.. i'll go looking at settings i guess but i'm stumped.

I'm using 160x??? resolution (??? depending on the stuff I'm encoding), full framerate, encoding on 192Kbps on 2-pass, and 11KHz sound (encoded with Lame). I don't drop many frames, be it on PAL or NTSC...

Ok I think I solved my problem. In divx settings under profiles 'bidirectional encoding' was checked off.. i unchecked it and now i can play the clip (25fps) at an average of 24 fps (so some dropped frames but not many considering it's full framerate).. at decimate by 2 i can play all at a 12.5 fps average and only a couple dropped frames.
Chrissss.. how do you adjust the colour saturation?

I'm using VDub 1.5.1 so yours might be a little different. I'll describe from memory as my VDub app is installed on a HDD that is just about dead. I don't want to access anything on that drive until I can recover the data to a new 80 pounder I just picked up.
Ok, from memory. On the same screen that you set your rules regarding screen rotation, resize, etc, there is a function called something like "HSC" for Hue/Saturation/Colour or something similar. You go to the 'saturation' tab and there is a slider that bumps up the colour saturation. On mine it only allowed specific increases. 140% was the minimum setting above 100% (normal).
It really helps liven the colour on the Ax, replacing the faded colours from the LCD screen.
