anyone tried xvid with pocketmvp?
I noticed that pocketMVP supports xvid.. has anyone done any experimenting with encoding using it? A buddy of mine who swears by it says it's less cpu intensive than divx 5. If this is the case it could allow us for higher bitrate, higher res with full framerates.

yes, I have, and for the most part it works fine. Noticed a few playback errors in a couple of my videos that play just fine on my pc (some gray blocks show up sometimes), but other than that it's great :-) Here's the settings I used in VirtualDub:
Filters: Resize 272x208 (4x3 aspect) or 320x176 (16x9 aspect) Rotate (right 90 degrees) Frame Rate: 24fps Audio: 96kbps or 64kbps mp3 stereo, 44.1/22.05 2-pass XViD - For 25 minute shows I target about 30MB or so. I've encoded 2 25-minute shows (anime specifically) with it and ended up with file sizes of 40.7MB (w/64kbps audio) and 47.3MB (w/96kbps audio). Weren't exactly shows with a lot of motion in them, so these settings may not work as well on high-motion videos. Hope that helps! | |||||

I don't really notice that much difference between them, not really. In terms of the encoders, XViD lets you pick a specific target size for a movie and also has more settings for tweaking than DivX does. So I don't really know.
