I highly suggest Winampaq. It has all of the features of Winamp 2.x, including skinning. Also it's free. Give it a try.

I would go with "withmp3", it has a 60 hour trial and the sound is about as good as you can get with the Ax

You can check out GSPlayer:

With some tweaking on the eq setting in the program, you can get bass-heavy music.

- Axim X5 Basic (PXA255, A05, WM2K3)
- Sandisk 256MB CF card
- Toshiba 256MB SD card
- Innopocket Axim Aluminium Case
- Fulbond WIFI CF Card
- IR Portable Keyboard

Gsplayer is nice but too hard to use. You can get more bass than the Ax knows what to do with though. For ease of use and sound quality ya gotta go with "withmp3". I tested about 5 different ones and this is the one I stuck with.
