Google Videos to PPC?
Hi

Recently, i've been getting more and more links to video.google.com sent to me.

As i am a busy person i can't spend all day at work watching such things, so i wanted to copy them to my PPC.

Has anyone had any luck getting this to work. You can choose either Windows/Mac format (gives you a .GVP file) or PSP or iPod (both of which give you an .MP4 file) which don't work on TCPMP (comes up with some errors).

i was wondering if anyone else has tried or had any luck.

I think google have kindly put some copy protection on their files, but if they can make a PSP or iPOD format, i don't see why they should discriminate against PPCs.

To play MP4 on TCPMP, you'll need the ACC audio codec. I think that's the error it gives you, right? Get the acc audio codec from version 0.66 with the most recent version of TCPMP. That should do the trick as I'm watching MP4 videos. However, I think MP4 for PSP is different in comparison to normal MP4 video as the compression is slightly different.

actually, i found a way to get it to download the video as an AVI which plays perfectly. although i'm wondering what type of mp4 the ipod format is compared.

the PSP format had an error about ownership or something i think.

if you select to download the video to Windows/Mac format, you can download it manually. All it gives is a GVP file which, i assume is opened through their google video player (which i didn't install). If you open it through notepad, you get a file which has a lot of garbled text, BUT there is a portion of it you can use.

Simply copy from the "http:\\..." bit to the last character before it says "DOCID" and paste it into your IE address bar.

then it says "do you want to open or save the file" and if you save it, it downloads the same video in AVI format.

Now that you know about it, they'll probably change their setup so you can't do it.

Also, i found a utility which can you can paste the web address of the page that plays it, and it downloads and converts it from both Google and YouTube sites. I found it from home (only tried it once but my PC crashed due to an unrelated problem), i can't post the link at this stage, sorry.

Do you know if it works for movies that you purchase as well?
