cant get .avi's to stream to pocket divx

cant get .avi's to stream to pocket divx on my axim from my desktop via wifi . pocket divx starts but dosent do anything.

i also tried to load the file from pcoket divx and it couldnt find the pc's mapped.


but i can stream .wmv to windows media player for ppc2003.


is this a divx player issue that doesnt allow streaming???

are there any other ppc avi players?

First, if you're still using PocketDivx - you seriously need to upgrade - it's called PocketMVP now and has been for several versions.

Second, and I may be wrong but I work with a lot of video, but I have never seen any streaming .avi videos. I don't think the AVI format even supports streaming. Typically, you can't even preview an incoming .avi until you have the whole file downloaded, unlike any MPEG-based audio/video.

WMV (and it's older ASF counterpart) were always intended for streaming, which is why they work fine.

if you have a mapped drive though, I think you should be able to open and view your avi? it's not like it's being streamed via http or anything.

Yes, if he's on a network connection, he should be able to copy the AVI over to his device then view it. Not the same as being streamed though. I don't have my device on a mapped drive or anything like that, but I can still stream via WME9.

i think tayln is on the right track ... avi's were never meant to stream
