Worried Wireless Axim

hi, I have the Dell Axim X5 wireless version and I also have a wireless network in my house. I was just wondering if I can use that network to play large DivX and wmv media files from my desktop pc to my Axim. The movies are too big to fit on my Axim memory (600MB+).

Anybody got any ideas? Please let me know.

yeah, there should be a way through wireless sync. talk to the people in wireless communications. if you converted them using the guides though, you could easly play them from a flash memory card

Thanks poppaj. Getting a 600MB+ flash card is gonna cost $$$ though, I was looking at leaving the file on my desktop PC and playing it from there.

The movies are already in DivX format, would I have to convert them again to Pocket MVP format?

Cheers

You should be able to map a drive using something like PE Netexplorer and just playing it like that. I use it all the times to listen to mp3's that are on my pc.

Yes! It's not the format (DivX, WMV, etc) you need to be concerned about. It's the fact that those original files are:

1) at a screensize that is larger than your PDA screen.
2) at a bitrate that is probably too high for your PDA to handle well.

That's why you see so many discussions about video encoding here...

something that BIG would have BIG BITRATES with large resolution i bet so i probably would be choppy if you played it at a unedited size, i dont think the axim can handle any bitrates over 2,000 kb per/sec video+audio combined

i'm sure it craps out at much less than 2000kbps combined audio and video. most poeple are encoding at 300kbps video or less, and are using mono or stereo mp3 at 56kbit.

what do u mean about dell wireless version?

thanks everybody, I'm sorry if I'm being a little 'dumb' but I only got my Dell three days ago! To red-i, I mean the Axim that comes with a CF Wi-Fi card with ir, it costs £291 altogether.

So, assuming I now have it in the correct format, as prescribed b4, can anyone tell me how I can play these files from my PC onto my Axim?

I did a Google search on PE Netexplorer but did not seem to find what was described by mboudoin. Any other solutions?

Thanks,

Alom

alom,

try resco explorer. its' able to map network drives to your pc, however I'm still waiting on my CF wifi card so I haven't tried it out yet but others are using resco to map network drives.
