No. I don't own one. And unfortunately, I don't see myself owning one anytime in the near future. I have been spending way too much money on toys as of late. I sure would love to own one though.

No, but pretty much only because I don't have the spare money to invest in one, otherwise I would.

I wonder how it would work on my Treo 700wx in a non-EVDO area? See, Houston has EVDO coverage but it hasn't migrated east to Beaumont quite yet. Anyway, I tried using Orb in my area and it was complete garbage. Very jerky. Very unwatchable. I would think that using a Slingbox might be better but I don't know that for sure.

Hmmm.... The Slingbox is pretty nice but based on what it does I am not sure if I would invest in one. My HTPC box pretty does the same thing.

I am running a 2.85GHz XP Pro system with the following items installed:
1GB of RAM
750GB HDD
2 Hauppauge PVR-150 tuner cards
1 Hauppauge PVR USB tuner
(total of 3 hardware encoder tuners)

I am using BeyondTV for all of my PVR functions and I use ORB for all of my media sharing. I currently use ORB today to stream live TV as well as recorded movies, MP3's and Pictures to any remote device including my smartphone. I came in handy as I had to take my daughters skating but a really important Tigers game was one that I wanted to watch. So I watched it on my phone while my daughters was skating. My BeyondTV setup will also allow LiveTV streaming as well as streaming recorded video (WMV or DiVX). I prefer ORB streaming as it is more flexible.

I am pretty happy with my setup and I am not really sure of a Slingbox will add anything extra for me. Seems pretty nifty though.

Thanks, I am always looking to better my HTPC. I just ran CAT 5 cable to my bedroom to use my MediaMVP to watch all of my DiVX/MPEG movies on my bedroom TV. I am now starting to load my favorite DVD's to my HDD on my HTPC in my basement. This will allow me to watch DVD movies on my bedroom TV straight from my HTPC using a sort-of on-demand type of setup found in hotels. I won't have to load up another DVD to watch a movie. I am thinking of getting another HDD just for my DVD's.

Man, it never stops.....

SO Chris, which Slingbox did you get? I've been toying with getting the Sling Pro to route HiDef to my new laptop so I can watch TV in my bedroom. My concern is how well the HiDef will travel over WiFi. Any thoughts on this?

I have DishHD and a DVR.

I got the AV.

I will talk with Sling about HD over WiFi, I cannot see that being a problem at all.

I talked with Sling Media about Ironguy's question and here is the response, "Couple of clarifying points.

We’re not streaming HD to the laptop or desktop with Slingbox PRO. However, we are taking in a true HD source through a component connection and because of that there is a lot more we can do with that stream and the stream is much more robust in terms of its richness of content and clarity.

With all new Slingboxes we have increased performance that especially shows off around a LAN environment where you can get up to 5 Mbps bit rates (if you had a connection that offered 5 Mbps upload speed I suppose you could achieve similar, but not many folks do.

By offering a component connection through our HD Connect cable, users that have an HD box don’t have to convert HD content to Standard def on the set-top box like they had to in the past and then use the s-video or composite connections to make the connection. Now just plug it in and you’re good to go.

Obviously if you have a hard wired connection to your PC at home, it is optimum performance, but wireless routers do a great job still and deliver the content to your device of choice around the home as you move from room to room with your computer or you simply stay put.

Hope that helps."

I am not real up to date with HD, etc myself.

PRO is the best

There is no question that the HD source material, even though the SB PRO is downconverting it to an SD source, looks much better than the SD source material. This could be just because the HD material is so much cleaner, but I think it is because it is so much better.

I have all the slingboxes and the PRO is the best. I have been using them with the mobile version for nearly a year now, and the mobile slingplayer works VERY nicely and it makes it very easy to just pop up open on the ipaq 4700 and run something or view something very quickly.

The whole package just works/rocks.
