Windows Media Player 10 - "Cannot play the file" Problem
On clearance I just purchased an iPAQ hx2755 with windows mobile 2003 second edition. I recently upgraded to Rom Version 1.10 only to find out that windows media player 10 mobile for pocket pc (Version 10 build 15045) will not play any of my multimedia files including WMA and WMV files. I initially thought it was due to some user-unfriendly microsoft digital rights constraint (inherent on the version 10 of WM mobile player) requiring users to sync their multi-media files in order for them to play on the pocket pc. I just tried synchronizing my pocket pc to my desktop pc's windows media player 11 wma library (to my pocket pc's sd card) only to find I am receiving the same darn error message when trying to play wma files synchronized over to my pocket pc. The message I get is as follows:

"Cannot play the file. The file is either corrupted or the player does not suport the format you are trying to play."

What is going on with this? Is there any way I can rollback my iPAQ hx2755's ROM to version 1.0 in order to get the previous windows media 9 player and codec? I would probably prefer WMP 9 because I prefer to move my wma/wmv files to my pocket pc via an external card reader instead of the time-consuming sychronization (what a drag!). I am aware that TCPMP is a superior player (and I do use it) but I do admit I like being able to tap a WMA/WMV file in the File Explorer and have it start playing over windows media player mobile. Thanks for your help!

Are you trying to open the media by clinking on it?

I've found that I can't do this on the ppc and with windows player 10 I have to add the files to the library then access the file from within the media player libarary.

So go to the windows player programme, then go to my music/my videos or whatever then specify which library you want all music/artist/album/genre and then click on whatever song you want to play.

Hope this helps.

Cathy, thanks for your help! I guess I must must from now on sync all my wmv or wma files in order to play them on my pocket pc, what a drag. I liked the old version of windows media player for pocket pc where I just loaded files onto my sd card through a sd card reader/writer.

I rip music from my own personal CDs all the time and have no problem listening to this music on my Pocket PC.

If you have not downloaded this music from the internet and there are no DRM files associated with it, then all you need to do is copy the files to a storage card and insert the storage card into your Pocket PC - no synching is necessary.

But if the music has DRM associated with it, you must sync the music to your Pocket PC.
