PocketPC 2002 Windows Media - DRM Compliant?
Would like to know if the pocket PC Windows Media Player V8.5 is DRM Compliant:
From buymusic.com: "To play songs downloaded from BuyMusic.com, your digital media player must be DRM compliant andWindows Media WMA compliant, because your music download files use license encryption technology. Non-Windows Media WMA compliant digital media players will not decrypt or play your music files. To find out if your digital media player is compliant, please contact your manufacturer." Would like to down load songs Legit for once... Use my Axim as my media player with headphones. I guess another angle is if someone has downloaded from BuyMusic.com and has been able to play on their 2002 axim. Anyone? Anyone?

It will transfer if your WMA file has the rights to do so. You can check by going File/Properties/License in Media Player on the PC. I'm not sure what BuyMusic usings for DRM but if they give rights to copy to a MP3 player, you should be able to copy to the PPC.

I downloaded a song from BuyMusic and was unable to transfer it to my Axim (2003). I used my desktop version of Windows Media Player to try to copy the file to my portable device as recommended but got a DRM error (even though the licese for this song said it would transfer to unlimited portable devices)... anyone else have this problem?

Actually I was able to solve my own problem. Although PocketPC is not in the list of approved devices, it is supported. The only catch (and the reason for my problem) was that I was using Windows Media Player to copy the wma file to the SD card in my PDA. This wont' work... only if you copy to the actual memory of the device. This is rather annoying since I don't have as much RAM as I do SD memory but something I'll have to learn to live with.

More power to understanding the instructions and not just reading them....buymusic.com isn't being deceptive as the music will transfer to the device.
At first when I did the same thing as jstplace, I thought to myself 'those little bastages' but then it dawned on me seconds later that I wasn't transferring it to the device but instead a card.....doh! ![]()

jstplace & janine,
Let me get this straight...you're saying that if you transfer the WMA file to PPC RAM everything's okay, but if you then move that file to your SD (or CF) card, your're dead because of a DRM violation? Even (the new) MS reader lets you keep DRM'd files on a mem card!
