Mortplayer alternatives ipod like or help file?
I'm using Mortplayer now but still find it pretty unintuitive and still hope for an ipod like interface for my Axim30. Has anything new come along that works well. My problems with the Mortplayer may be due to me not understanding it. Currently the biggest one is how you can not go to landscape display. Not only that but it would switch the entire Axim back to portrait everytime I used Mortplayer. My biggest problems are the way one has to fiddle with it to play files. Nearly everytime I have to wade into the settings and tell it if I want podcasts or songs,to shuffle,to turn on or off the display after 10 sec. etc. I can't seem to keep it behaving the same way. Anyway I still prefer to media player but hope for a simpler interface or a decent help file for it if I'm not using it right. Thanks for any info.

MortPlayer stays in landscape format (and of course modifies the display) if the skin supports landscape. Try e.g. Night, qVista, MyPod/qPod, ...
To switch to another directory, just open the Open dialog. If you added the directories to the favorites, you see them directly there, and you can also use the favorite skip buttons (<[] / []>) to switch them.
To change the shuffle and repeat modes, just press the buttons. If you chose a skin that doesn't contain them, there are also menu entries for that, no need to enter the settings.
The screen toggle should be assigned to a button if you want to use it often. But of course you can also set a fixed screen off timeout and turn on the screen with the power button...

mortplayer landscape qpod iphone skins
Thanks. I just read that reply. I wouldn't have known that some skins behave differently. I got the night skin to do the landscape, but after placing both the qPod3.mpz and iPhone.mpz in the \Program Files\MortPlayer directory (with the other skins) these ones don't show up when i go to "select skins" only a list of the previous skins. I just installed v3.31 b47. One other problem that i haven't figured out is when using tomtom5 on my pocket pc,its voice directions will make the mortplayers volume jump to the same as tomtom. Is there a way to make them independent of each other? Thanks

I just realized that there 2 directories for Mort Player so by going to the one in the storage card the iphone.mpz skin started to work. The qpod3.mpz showed only a blue screen though.

mort player no fun to drive with
I finally got the new skins to go on (so I could use landscape mode) but the print was so tiny I couldn't use them. I needed just the opposite a simple interface that is as easy as an ipods and can be used in a car. The only one that works well for me is the one called "steel" but it won't go to landscape. I just tried a drive using the "night" skin and got into so many difficulties to play songs I about wrecked the car. It's nothing tricky I'm doing. On my storage card I just have one folder for podcasts and one for music, but invariably this would send me into some tiny spot to try to hit the right combination of folders (which I usually missed) which only at the end of my trip came up. What I like about the "steel" one is the large volume and playback slider so I can quickly adjust where I want to listen. I also need an immediate button to erase the podcast after I hear it.For car use I don't need any pictures of album art. Maybe its possible to do these things but its not something that is very apparent.

Wnaprod, I can't agree with your comments more. In addition to the problems you mentioned, about half the time Mortplayer freezes my iPaq RW6815 on opening and I must do a soft reset. Were it not for bookmarks for audio books, I'd not use it. Perhaps over time I will learn to use this software.

Another problem I have with MortPlayer is that, although it says it uses GSPlayers playback routines, the audio output seems very different from GSPlayer. To me at least, it has way too much distortion even with smallest changes in bass or preamp. I actually tried changing settings in X50mix with both MortPlayer and GSPlayer (equalizers set to "flat") and changing bass had a much more profound effect in Mort. Perhaps I just don't know how to use it properly, but I was never happy with sound quality using equalizer.

GSPlayer works fine to me in the car, the buttons are smallish but I have all main functions (ff, rw, stop, play, volume) mapped to hardware buttons, and having it always in playlist mode makes use actually easier than Mort. I wish though it had more Mort-like skins and better unicode playlist support.

The only difference is another default volume. Try to lower the startup channel volume (in new betas, the recent volume is saved by default), and the effects should be about the same.

You can do that with almost every player, including TCPMP and MortPlayer.

Depends on your usage. If you want to switch to another folder (CD), it's more easy with MortPlayer (if the favorites are properly set and the skin supports it).
