solution for 2003 movie watchers
hey ya'll got a solution for pmvp's no audio, in windows 2003...
i just use media player, yup the included player.
i rip my dvd movie ( that i own , of course) to the hard drive using divx codec and DVDX ... this makes a avi file about 130-200 mb
then i run that file thru moviemaker 2 ( free from microsoft )
and change it to a full screen format for pocket pc ( one of the selections) and save it as wmv file. brings the file size down further , last one i did was 115mb, then just drag and drop to my cf card.... it takes time, but i set it up to do this stuff when the computer isnt being used, ie night, or suppertime.
works fairly good and isnt that complicated....
hope this helps ppl

Hmmm, would love to try one of your movies before I try to do my own. If I own the DVD and you own the DVD, I would suggest that viewing one of your files would not be a capital offense???

I have had no troubles using WMP9 or PocketMVP to watch WMV, MPG, and AVI files on WM2003 on my Axim.

Of course, they could always use the newer PocketMVP that was designed to work with WM2003 instead of the old PPC2002 version that gives the 'error in audio' ...

I heard Dr. Divx works pretty well. Does it all in one app. It's not free though.

Do a google search. The newest official version at home.adelphia.net works better on WM2003 than any of the previous versions worked on PPC2002.

The original poster is correct, I have done this with a movie, and it works fantastic. On my maestro, .wmv and w. media player SUCKED.

On my axim w/ wm2003, the .wmv files play *smooth*, and the movie maker 2 thing encode pretty freakin' fast. Taking a divx or xvid down to 110-150mb takes about 40 minutes, if that. A simpsons episode took about 10 minutes. The quality is actually 200x better than I expected. No point in even messing w/ divx for me. This is quick, easy, and the player is already in rom. The less installed the better, in my opinion.

The presets in movie maker 2 for widescreen and cd ql audio give it surprisingly great quality. Non-widescreen and 'voice' audio give smaller file size, but if you have thye room, the higher settings still cram a 2 hour film into 150-160mb. This is crazy awesome, I can carry around 5 mixed episodes of simpsons, futurama and family guy, and 3 full movies! Next plane trip I take is going to be sooo non-boring.....

I have to admit I tried the Moviemaker 2 and media player...worked great. Guess I'll stick with that rather than look for a 3rd party solution. At least the price is right...how can you argue with that?

Also I picked up a movie from pocketpcfilms, and it's the same as my homeade .wmv in terms of quality. I think they are just encoding with the movie maker 2 ppc preset.

I've just downloaded Movie Maker 2 but cant find any options for wide screen or audio quality? All i can see is PocketPc full screen high quality.

Am i missing something? Must say this does look easier that VirtualDub etc and it will be interesting to see how it plays.

With TMG i was getting framerates of 23 a second on movies.

Hope someone can help with my Widescreen question.

Thanks
