help with drive mapping
Okay, please help out a newbie. I am new th PPC but not with computers and XP.
I am trying to map a network drive so that I can play music files from axim without transferring them.
I need step by step instructions, since I tried several ways already.
First, can this be done with regular file explorer that came with PPC2k3? Can I run a music file or video file directly from explorer. I found out how to access the files from my computer but it is not a "mapped" drive, meaning I can't run applications directly.
I am now trying with PP Net explorer. It has an option to map network drive but I can't seem to figure this out.
My desktop is as follows:
computer name: Mycomp
workgroup: MyGroup
I have no domain. I do not log on anything when my computer starts up.
What do I fill in for these blanks:
session
server
share
user name
domain
password

In 2002 the only thing you could do with the built-int files explorer was to copy files. I haven't tried in 2003. Other drive mapping programs worked for opening files without copying them first.

File Explorer in 2003 looks the same as in 2002. I do not see any way to map a drive letter, only to open a network location using a standard UNC path.

I think there is no way to mount or map it. But you can however browse and open your files on the Windows machine, by going to the file explorer, then tap on the network icon on the lower toolbar (to the right), then type \\your-computer-name and it should show the shares in there, after you have logged in.

I am playing my MP3s off my server to my PPC using wireless......The included file explorer will let you see the network drive but will not play the files.....I tapped for days but no song would play!!! I tried Resco Explorer...It allows me to map the network folder on my server where I have all my MP3s. I can tap on the Mp3 and it will play over the wireless in WMP 9 just fine...I also tried Pocket Music and it works but I went back to WMP9 because the display is easier for me to read. The only thing I can not do is to get more than one song to play at a time...I have tried to create playlists but none of the software that I have tried will allow you to look onto a networked drive. I have three choices....main memory, flash rom or my SD card....(I am using a Toshiba E750 with built in wireless) I can not get the play to give me a choice of looking on the network drive. This ticks me off because I have to click the next song to play after the current one finishes....Seems like a little registery tweak should give me the option to get a playlist off the network.

If you connect with the file explorer and then open up the directory \\computername in another program you can access all the files in other programs too. I'm playing music over the network with betaplayer right now and not using any other 3rd party apps.

I have the same problem, I can connect to my shared music files from any computer in my house, wired or wireless. From the Axim I can't. I can connect to the internet, but not to any shares on my network. Any hints would be appreciated.
