I think I'm starting to lose it. I've been over just about every guide at every site I can find, including this one, and I still am getting very choppy playback on my Axim 400.
I'm currently exporting video projects from Adobe Premiere 6. I've tried encoding directly to Divx 5.03, and also to DV AVI. I started trying the DV AVI and using virtual dub to compress and rotate the video with Divx 5.03 to 320x216 fullscreen resolution (I get 216 instead of 240, I think becuase of the .9 aspect ratio of DV pixels).
Anyway, even making the video prerotated by virtualdub so PocketMVP doesn't have to on the fly, still can't seem to get better than 10-12fps, unless my video data rate is down around 100kbs, and that just looks like crap. I've cut the audio down quite a bit with MP3 compression, but still no good.
So, I have to wonder if I'm just expecting too much. What kind of playback speed should I be able to achieve in a fullscreen mode? And, if anyone has any pointers that I've missed, I'd appreciate it.

If you set your audio to mono and low quality, it's supposed to play better.
Don't know if you've tried it yet, but it helps.
You might have to settle for 15 fps.

Well, all the guides I have read said NOT TO encode using Divx 5, but rather 4.01 or some suck.. I went to pocketmatrix.com, and they have a step-by-step guide, including liks to the software...

I'm not sure why some are against using DiVX 5, I'm getting similar quality yet smaller file sizes using 5.03 Pro.

From what I've seen, the deal with not using Divx 5 had been that pocketdivx didn't support it, but the new pocketMVP does. And it does play them, but so far just not very well.
So, what kind of framerates are you guys getting for fullscreen playback? I've tried different compressions and stereo/mono combinations and haven't seen much affect on framerates (i.e. bad all the time)

Do you guys have the 300mhz or 400mhz Axim?
I'm thinking of getting the 400mhz Axim, and it has been my impression that
it should handle properly encoded divx movies with ease :( I read the guide on
Pocketmatrix and have encoded a DVD movie several times with good results.
Unfortunately, since I do not yet own a PocketPC, I cannot test them.
I am hoping that the 400mhz Axim can run divx movies at a resolution
of 320x176 (prerotated) at 24fps at a video bitrate of 200-400kbit.
Audio at 24kbit or 32kbit mono 11khz, possibly stereo too.
Anybody out there have divx movies run on their Axim at full framerate
(24fps movies, 30fps for TV) without dropping frames? I would hate to
have to decimate framerate by 2.

I can run the matrix trailer just fine w/o any frame dropping. However, I don't know what the details are on that file (i.e. bitrates, framerates, audio, etc.)
It looks great in "fullscreen" mode on my Axim 400 and that's what I want as far as playback from my own movies. So far, no luck.
Does anyone know what the details are on the Matrix trailer?

In PocketMVP:
File - Settings - Configure - (check) Show Dropped Frame
(for dropped frames after playback)
File - Media Info
(after loading file - for details of the video clip)
Hope this helps,
Jeff
