Napster songs on Media Player?

I am currently subscribed to Napster $9 all you can download. Should I be able to listen to these secure files on my Ax? I am using Media Player 8, or will the license management not allow me?Thanks
Keith

as far as i know, an mp3 is an mp3, and as such any songs you download should play fine in wmplayer. my only suggestion to you is to stop paying money for something you can easily get for free.

can you burn the files to CD? Fron waht I understand aout the all you can listen to plan, you are only buying the rights to the songs until you stop subscribing, so that means that there are limits to what you can do with the file.

Napster uses WMA files with DRM. I have been able to copy them (using Windows Media Player on the desktop while the Axim is cradled) to a CF card, but I could not get it to work with my SD card. I actually have not tried main memory yet, but I will and let you know what I find.

Any more information about this? I tried copying a song (purchased on Napster) to my Axim over the weekend, but it wouldn't play - said I didn't have correct permission.

How did you copy the song? Using Windows Media Player on the desktop with the device connected via ActiveSync? Or did you just try to drag and drop the file?

What you'll have to do is burn the songs to a disc and then rip the CD to convert the songs to mp3s. This is what I have to do with MusicMatch. The songs purchased from them are also WMA format. :bang:

This question actually came up a while back. When bought a song online I tried to copy it to a CF card and it wouldn't let me play it. I learned that I had to copy the song directly to the device (Axim). Of course, I didn't want to do that but never investigated it any further to see if there was a way around it (but I doubt there is).

You can copy it to a CF card connected to the device so long as you do it with WMP while the Axim is cradled. That's what I just confirmed would work. You can do the same thing using Musicmatch for Musicmatch downloads.

What I cannot do is copy the files to an SD card - but I can copy to CF.

For Napster: If you bought the song (or CD) and didn't just download it through the "Premium" service, you can copy it to your device through Windows Media Player (Click File -> Copy -> Copy to Portable Device). I presume the device must have full partnership, but I am not certain. In the Napster FAQ, it says "Songs must be purchased before they can be transferred to a portable device"; so this implies songs downloaded with Premium service access won't work. You are also unable to burn premium service downloaded such songs to CD (unless you buy the songs), so reencoding to MP3 that way won't work either. There are other methods to do what you want, but you'll have to look them up on google.

Adios,
~Nick

I can't seem to copy secured WMA/MP3 files to my Axim. I've tried copying the file from WMP 9, but the only I can do that is by placing my CF card in a card reader. Otherwise, WMP 9 doesn't see my Axim.

Any ideas?

I tried doing this a couple of days ago and didn't have problems. I put my Axim in the cradle, opened Windows Media Player on my PC, clicked on Copy to CD or Device. Then, on the top right side of the of the screen you should see a pull-down menu....think the menu is called Items On Device....you should just be able to select the CF card from that menu.
