Ok, this has been driving me nuts since I posted my apology this morning. I know, it's sad! :o
Right, first things first; it's best to test that I understand what Spc 4 is trying to acheive. If I understand correctly Spc 4 wants to connect his/her (sorry!) iPAQ to the main pc and play music files on the ppc without downloading (i.e. syncing) them.
It is easier than I thought! The key here is to focus on the pda and not WM11. All that is required is to browse network files using Pocket Explorer and the built-in Wifi: any
shared music files will be available and stream to Windows Mobile Media Player by selecting them in Pocket Explorer.
If the iPAQ is Windows Mobile 2005 I don't know the exact route but in 2003:
- Open Mobile Explorer and tap Open.
- In the dialog box, type the address of the main pc (you can find it in My Network Places)
- If you don't have a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection you will be prompted to create one
- Once the VPN is created the pda should connect to the shared folders on the network drive
Just explore as you would normally and tap on music files that you want to play and Mobile Media Player should open.
That's the hard way!
The easy way does require a few $s I've just spent $18 on a ppc application called
Network Browser (PPC2003/WM5). There are others (Resco for instance). It's cheating, I know but it establishes the network without the bother of creating the VPN, all you need to do is enter the user name and password (if you have one) to get in. It took seconds!
You can share your music in
My Documents simply by right clicking the folder and selecting the
Sharing tab. The only thing I don't know is how this deals with protected content (I don't have any as I don't buy music on line; all my music is ripped from CDs).
I hope that this is the answer to your question.
