Hi, I just got my axim and its an amzing piece of hardwear and i must say that dell has truly done a great PPC. well my question is that i am trying to transfer some mpeg and avi files to the PPC. i have a 64 mb CF card and i would like to know, how would you transfer video files onto the PPC and directly into the CF card. i tried using the drag and drop but it said i didnt have enough space. It said to use Windows media player, i try to transfer files using that and i get an error when transfering video files. Is there anyway to transfer video files using another program and do i need to convert my mpeg and avi files into another format to be able to transfer them using wmp. Also i think this is a great site and i am so glad that they made this forum, especially for a newbie like me. thanks

I've been playing with the Windows Media Encoder for the last couple days, and it does create WM output, but I still havn't found the optimum settings for the best appearance and smoothest playback. It's really easy to use, 'till you get to the part where you pick the encoding engine ... if that's the correct term. This sets the vid size, bandwidth, audio etc to your specs.
Check out the other threads about "choppy video" "Movies" etc., as this has been an on-going topic lately.

This encoder did wonders for some huge audio files of mine, converting a 30 meg mp3 to 11.5 meg wma, and it still sounds good.
My attempts at getting mpg files reduced either yield good clarity w/ 6-8 fps playback, or 15- 20 fps with an image that is so j-peged that it isn't worth watching. Mind you, this is playback using WMP, so it's not the best player available.
I'm going to be starting to resample clips to mpg this weekend with another encoder.
