Problem with SVCD converting...

Hi everyone!

I have a problem converting a mpeg video using movie maker.

I got a holiday video from a friend on SVCD. He said that he has tried to bring it onto his PDA but without success.

Therefore he gave it to me to try it.
I inserted the Video CD into my CD Drive and copied the video file from the MPEG2 folder to my HDD.
Then i tried to import this file into Windows Movie Maker, and after some cpuworking the programm tells me, that the file might be damaged. But im sure it's not (i watched the whole video several times...Lanzarote is a cool island ;-))

The thing i want to do is to convert the file to 320x200 (or so...which formates do you use for your PDA's movies?)
from 640x480...

Movie Maker obviously has a problem with the file: Which programms do you use? am i doing something wrong?

I don't have much experience in this field and any i qould appreciate any input!!!1

thanks
Werner

Hey flanker,
Try using Windows Media Encoder. You can download it free from Microsoft and it's pretty user friendly. It also has some preset conversion that will work for ppc.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the hint!

I've tried Media Encoder, but it doesn't get over the "open file" "action" ... :-(

can it be a problem with the mpeg file???

ok thanks for your help you until now gave me a hint for the right direction!

But i've encountered a new problem:

I'm using TMPGEnc to "multiplex" the Mpeg file (800 MB) in the MPEG2 folder of the SVCD (it cointains the movie)

the issue:

i can't play the "original" file from the MPEG2 folder with Media Player 9, but with Intervideo without problems!

After multiplexing i is a little bit shorter, but i can play it in Media Player... with one big problem: the video stops after some seconds, sound jumps some seconds forward and plays on, but video stops to play...
When using the bar at the bottom i can go forward, then the video runs normal (i hope that ther's not a similar failure than...)

Intervideo can play also the multiplexed file normal without problems!!

Yesterday i then (didn't know about this problem cause i didn't watch the multiplexed file) converted the file with Media Encoder (Virtual Dub says"no frames are found..."?!?!?!))

Converted file: 22 MB, video stops exactly when the failure in the unconverted multiplexed file accurs, but sounds goes on...

Thanks for any help again!!!
