Preparing movies while waiting
It looks like I have at least two weeks before my Axim arrives. In order to keep me from shopping for an Ipaq I need to keep myself occupied by ripping movies.
I followed the instructions on the Pocket Matrix site for my first Divx, Toy Story 2. (its for the kids) Do all movies use the same settings, aside from the aspect ratios? Are there different optimal settings for the 400 and 300 Axims? Are the instructions on that page for best quality, or smallest size files, or a balance between the two? Do I just have to keep experimenting on finding the right balance between picture quality, sound quality, and size?
I just want to know before I rip and encode my whole DVD collection to find out that they don't play on the Axim.

kidruiz,
After following the instructions word for word, the resulting file was 136 MB. The link that rcgamer gave is what I used. It has the instructions and links to all programs you need to do this.
I tried playing it in Windows Media Player but there was no sound. The movie shows, just without sound. If only I had my Axim to test it. Until it arrives, I have plenty of time and movies to do.

Snipped from the PocketMVP Help file:

Remember, encoding video is like an art form, the more you practice at it, the better you get. Hopefully with these settings, we will make you a Picasso!
Use these settings as a general guide ONLY. Your specific device may need additional tweaking for it to properly playback content. Once we have collected enough encoding settings we will break them down by individual devices to make it easier for you.
A few thoughts on video encoding:
- Encoding video in landscape mode saves CPU cycles, other than have PocketMVP do it.
- Decimating the video by two (2) is recommended (but not required, try experimenting).
- Until XviD, VP3, Theora are mature enough we recommend encoding with DivX.
GENERAL SETTINGS:
Audio: 32kbit, 44.1 khz, Stereo, MP3
Video: 320x240, 250-400 bitrate, decimate video by 2, 2-pass DivX 5.02, NO pro features, NO psychovisuals

If you're like me - little to no encoding experience before Axim - multiple readings of the PMVP help file are required, along with info from Project Mayo, Nicky's and Virtualdub sites.
Tip: copy the PMVP help file from the Axim to your desktop for quick and easy reference...
