How do I play .avi files???

I have 3 .avi files on my Axim X3i and I can't play them. When I try to open them it says they are not associated with any program and that I have to open them from within a program. So I open windows media player, but the problem is it won't let me open any files. There just isn't an option for it, which I thought was really wierd.
All it will do is scan my PDA for music files and let me choose one of those.
I see there are many posts on the forums here about encoding to .avi, but I don't want to do that. Just play them. That's it.

So how do I play these .avi files?
