I have a couple of ReplayTV units and have been extracting the shows onto my computer then using a editor called reVue to edit out the commercials, stripping it down to 42 minutes, then I use Movie Maker to convert the hour show (800+MB @ standard quality) to Pocket PC (63MB+/-). I play it back with the Windows Media Player. It looks decent enough to me.
If I am early to a meeting or what ever, I can watch part of a show that I wanted to see. Or I can put one of my kid's programs on it when I or my wife have to go to an appointment and need to take him. It gives him something to do while sitting there waiting.

if you are replying to me then i wanted to let everyone know i own the dvd....
an error should have nothing to do with rented vs buying... the discs are the same.
i am trying the software on my boss's daughter

DVD to HPC Software
Software is available on HANDANGO.....it says restricted to US, and they ask if rented or owned, yada yada....they have to do that for legality sake....
Demo is limited to 5 minutes of DVD, but it loaded in minutes. Interface is as simple enough for a 6 year old....takes 128 SD card for 'standard' quality, and 256 for 'super-duper' quality.
Can view in regular mode and landscape mode, sound is stereo same as Windows Media usually is....makes no diff whether you rented or own the DVD. End of story.
Demo costs nothing to try....so instead of going thru all this yakamushi, try it!!

I actually love this program. I like that it's so simple and straight forward. I had some problems with the demo but after uninstalling and reinstalling it worked fine. Bought the program and I have not had any problems with it since. The movies are all sized down to less then what i get with divx and it's done quicker also. They play great on my ax5 with wm2003..they don't play well on my mom's ipaq she's afraid to upgrade to 2003...but the program says that it's a 2003 program...so can't help her

Not sure if this is the technical term, but the big problam I had with DVD to pocket pc was the sound was way off. did anyone else have this problem? and it was super hard to determine with the demo version because I didnt get 5 minutes. I got closer to 2 minutes. anyone else have this problem? If the full version encodes the sound right i mihgt buy it but i also dont mind using 2 programs.
I have the windows media encoder installed, what is the best program to get from dvd to avi? i have never been able to rip a dvd well. (must be stoooopehd). what should i use?

I have a strange problem encoding Concerts, like Journey 2001, Cher in las Vegas, STYX Return to Paradise, or the new Pep Shop Boys: POP ART DVD, the audio goes on for a minute and then off for another one.
I check different settings one at the time but no luck!
Just happends whit concerts DVD, no movies.
Any Idea?

It is only avalible for XP but there are older versions of windows media encoder but i am not sure if they have the features the version 9 does.
I use WME all the time and it works great. I get great playback in 320x240 with really good qaulity. I got The Matrix in 148MBs with these settings.
