Sleep DVD TO POCKET PC: only 1 single Software

Yup theres one single software that you can use to convert your DVD to Windows Media Player Format then copy to Your SD or CF card on your Axim. Just one single software: No DivX No Virtual Dub etc.

I do not remember the name of this software but the Demo Version can be downloaded from pocketpccity.com
When I get home I'll post the name of the software

Yes it takes a couple of hours to download the software which is about 12mb
Yes it takes a couple of hours to convert from DVD to your pocket PC
So do the multiple softwares.

But you'll only need one software and about 2 clicks thats all.

What about Windows Media Encoder Utility? It does it all, and it's pretty simple, not to mention free with windows. XP that is...

Well, I just installed it. I updated my mediaplayer to version 9 Then I installed the Windows Media encoder(Only XP) and converted some video .avi and that works great. You can choose to what you want to convert and of course a PPC option is available.
After conversion I tested the .wmv on the AXIM and that worked great.
The download is about 9MB

You can get it here. I would advice to upgrade windows mediaplayer to version 9 if you have an older version installed.

Thanks to Funkerschitte for this.

Enjoy.
Peace,
Henk.

Windows Media Encoder is nice to use but does not serve the purpose of converting video from DVD to WMV in one package. That's what DVD to PocketPC supplies. You have to use a separate software package to rip from DVD and convert to AVI or some other format so that you can use WME. Therefore you could be using two or three software apps just to get video on your PocketPC from a DVD. Not so with DVD to PocketPC. It has everything in one package so you can have everything done for you in as little as a few clicks of the mouse and also saves alot of time.

Her's the link that Pecos was talking about

http://www.pocketpccity.com/software...ketpc2002.html

Cost is listed at $24.99. If you go to the developers site there is a disclaimer that it cannot be sold in the US and a couple of other countries.

Not sure I am interested enough to pay to see a movie on my AX.
They do cliam taht a standard (whatever that is) sized move can be stored on a 128 SD.

I don't understand this, they say the use Windows Media Encoder, but when i used it on the pocket pc widescreen setting for the original Matrix witch is about 2:16 i got a 208mb file wich would definetly noy fit on a 128mb sd card.
Even with a smaller bitrate like 180kbs or something like that it is still to large and the quality is horrible, its not even good with the pocket pc setting. So how can they say its great quallity and less than 128mb

In my case that was enough. I didn't want to rip a whole DVD, just to convert some webcam made video files which I need to show others. So WME was enough for me. Indeed if you want to rip a whole DVD you need other software.

Peace.
Henk.

instead of media encoder, i use movie makerwhich is also free, on xp at least and is already installed. Quality isn't bad, though the file size is a little big. Happy with it though.

windows media is good for videos like "baby's first steps" or "my cat running around" to show to neighbors, friends, and the elderly. It is NOT MADE FOR MOVIES. Yes, you can reformat The Matrix into a 70 or so megabyte file with a 320x240 resolution if you should want, but it is better you don't humiliate yourself doing so. The quality is very poor (read: VERY)
