I'm truly no expert, but I got Resco Explorer because I heard it was a must have, and there's a "map network drive" function that, when I click it, it searches for computers on the network (provided your wireless is working). It found my shared folder on my laptop, and I can access my mp3s that way.

BTW, Resco Explorer isn't free, but you can try the trial just to see if it works.

Once you've set up shared files on your PC and put the music in them, you can access the music without any extra programs. In file explorer, the third of the three icons on the bottom toolbar is a hand holding a drum. If you tap on this, it gives you a new menu, "Open" with a box to fill in Open path: with two backslashes. Type in the network name of your PC and it will show you the shared folders that you can select. You can double tap on an mp3 file and it will open in WMP.

The problem with this method is the folder is not really mapped. While you can access and open files through file explorer, you cannot do it through other programs which means you will not be able to create playlists of these music files. To do this, Resco Explorer as rtalain described is the best option I've come across (although PocketLAN will also allow you to do it as, I'm sure, will other programs. PocketLAN is also payware and I know of no freeware program that will map the drives).

[Note added in edit: I forgot about Total Commander. It may allow mapping although I've never actually gotten folders mapped with it myself.]
