Noob wants to stream Divx
I have tried and tried but can't find what i'm looking for exactly, so i decided to post. I might be stating the obvious here too, but then sometimes the obvious needs to be stated for us noobs.

Scenario:
-----------
I have :-
1) a desktop pc (P4 etc)
2) a wireless router
3) lots and lots (and lots) of videos (encoded mostly in Divx 352x240, 25 fps but various codecs and various sizes).
4) a girlfriend who doesn't like me to watch TV at night as the noise keeps her awake.

I want :-
to be able to watch these videos at night in bed etc.

The question :-
If i buy myself an Axim X3i will i be able to stream the video files wirelessly, WITHOUT re-encoding them?

I figure that files size is not an issue if i am streaming. Is bit-rate a problem? Is the 802.11b not enough? Is the Axim unable to display video of (slightly) larger sizes at all, or does it scale, or does it lose some ofthe pixels?

I am not worried too much about display quality per se, but want to watch my videos away from my PC.
Lots and lots of questions here, but if i am going to invest in an Axim X3i i want to know it's going to do the job i want!

Thank you one and all for any help.

Well it really depends on the bitrate your videos are encoded to. Anything around 300kbps should be ok I would think

Ok, well i suppose i have to ask the question "Why?"
Is it due to the Axim's processing power?

What are the bottlenecks involved here?

Thanks, and info appreciated

NurseMSIC

PS I randomly opened an AVI file i have, it is 576x432, 24 fps, 140 MB and Bitrate is 736 kb/s. How would this play and look if i wanted to play it wirelessly on the X3i?

The Axim can not handle this much size and bitrate. It just dont have the memory or processing power to handle it. I know you said you did'nt want to re-encode your videos but what you need is a video at 320x240 at around 300kbps...Sorry

Ok, i understand. I appreciate your time, i think i'm not going to buy one but i'll wait another generation.
I currently have a Clie that does allow me to play video files (although only from its memory stick) that i have to re-encode, and it's the re-encoding part that is a right ball-ache.

Oh well, i'll be back in about, oh, 1 year.

Bye and Happy New Year!
