bitrate for audio files
i (my girlfriend *lol*) will use my new X3i as a portable music player (too)
Therefore it would be interesting, how can i get "best performance for lowest memory consuption" Does it have to be 128 (cd quality)? Thanks! Werner

128 is really not CD quality, but quality is subjective. You could go lower (i.e. 64) but it really depends on how sensitive your (err..your gf's) ears are. Alternatively, you could convert your tunes into .ogg or .wma formats, which provide equivalent quality but at lower bitrates.

As Gigi says quality is subjective. It also depends on the quality of your 'phones. I find that 96 kbps gives excellent quality on WMA files, using cheap but good 'phones ( Panasonic RP-HT51 costing £10 here in the UK). Using 96 kbps I can get well over 5 hours of music on a 256 MB CF Card.
There is obviously a trade off between quality and playing time. Try experimenting to find the lowest bit rate that gives the quality that is acceptable you or your girl friend.
