Playing mp3's from desktop via WiFi
OK, I've got my new X3i just a humming. I can connect into the Internet just fine and can browse files on my desktop PC just fine also. With Resco File Explorer, I've mapped a directory. What I want to do is play an entire directory of songs on the desktop PC on the X3i. I am using Pocket Music. All I can seem to do is play individual songs when tapped within Resco. It then starts Pocket Music and plays the song. I don't see anyway in Pocket Music how to access an entire directory though. Am I missing something? Is there a better mp3 player to do what I want to do? Thanks.

I eagerly await a response to this one (sorry to get your hopes up, I've tried the same thing with no success)

Hmm, never heard of pocket music, but if you could do it with local files, then a utility called "net use" allows you to map network folders into the local filesystem (in a "network" folder which appears like another storage card....
not sure where you'd find net use, but I'd imagine google is your friend :)
don't know if this'll help - depends if you know how to play a directory of files if they're stored locally or not.

ooh hang on, ever since I installed Sprite Backup there has been a new folder in my main memory called "NETWORK" which shows the drive mappings I have defined via reco file explorer..I'll give that try when I get home and let you know if it works..assuming it will give similar results to net use.

Cancel that last one, I was babbling. The NETWORK folder is thanks to Resco Explorer, it lets you create drive mapping sto network resources and makes them appear as browsable folders under your main memory. Using that, you could use any app to access those files.
I use Pocket Music to play MP3's, it lets you "add file" or "add folder" to the playlist, but I assume most apps have a facility to browse the local file structure, and since NETWORK just appears as another folder, you should be able to play files off your network shares.
Good luck!

Yup, that's exactly what the freeware Net Use does too.

I hate to be dense but I still can't get this. Where do the maps appear? I've done a map using Resco but can't see it in gsplayer.

Success!!
Well I have finally been able to get this to work using Resco File Explorer and gsplayer. You create the map in Resco - eg. \\mypc\files. Then in gsplayer, clear out the play list, click on File and then Add File.... Then in the Name field enter the shared name \\mypc\files. Viola - your directories on the desktop PC appear. Then just navigate down into the folder you wish to play. Use the little select all icon to highlight all the files and then click on OK and the entire directory on the desktop PC will load into gsplayer to play. I know it's a little convoluted but it works plus once, you've navigated on the desktop the first time, if you want to change directories you are already there (until you bring the WiFi connection down).

I followed your directions, but how to do enter the path in the name field? All I have is the drop down folder option and the file selection type. Otherwise I can't find any way to enter a folder name.

You type the desktop PC shared folder name in the Name: field on the Add File ... dialogue screen.

sorry, but I'm using GSPlayer and I can't figure out where to add the name.
I go to File -> Add File. I then have 2 drop downs, one where I pick the folder and the other I pick the file type.
I do not have any ability to type in a name.
I am using GSPlayer v1.94 from Y. Nagamidori

Wierd. When I go to File -> Add File, right above the Type dropdown is a field where you can enter the name. It says Name:. I just tap in the Name entry field and enter the folder name (like \\mypc\foldername). I am using the very same version.

Very strange, because mine doesn't say name, but 'Folder'.
I'm able to get to my maped desktop hard drive, but only the first level folder (using Resco), nothing in the sub folders.
Getting closer....
Can you email the version you have? michael at btwebs.net
thanks
